Usul has called a big one!

Seriously though, that is a beautiful NS. When you gig, remember to call it "Muad'Dib."

If you don't mind me asking, how long was your wait from time of order?

Meet "Usul". :ugeek:
Ash body, dark bamboo neck, black peal inlays.
First impressions - ~nice~
wood -
I really like the bamboo neck, it's quick really hard and light weight.
the body is a tad darker then i expected, but wood can be like that.
The grain has a tiny separation between the neck pickups and the neck After closer inspection, I've discovered this is a natural state of the wood, not a crack, it's like the grain curled out (would of been a knot a few inches away, but the knot was cut out for the neck area) IMO -This gives the body more character. makes it "real".
Electronics -
One of the pots is a bit stiff, If it doesn't loosen up I'll contact SE.
Playing stereo through a HD500x -> Pigtronix infinity -> Roland KC-550.
The EMG's don't have the power of my standard bass pups,,, but (!) they sound great. I will deal with this in the signal chain and pickup height.
I need to cut through live drums.....
playing -
The action is a blast, I caught myself playing in mixed mode, tapping, finger plucking, and light thumb slapping (this demands a light touch,,, but what a riot) the fretboard is fast.
The strap is nice, I'm 6'2", so luckily I can adjust it. the way SE placed the forward strap bar forces it to fall into playing position, I've had neck heavy bases that could of used this. I didn't even think about it's weight, it's not heavy, and falls right into the "lets go" position.

This journey is already fun.

Glenn, twas over a month.
thanks everyone..... still adjusting the fit.

... and Yes ;) I am a Herbert fan, i have ~all~ of his and his son's,, books.

so - for those who dont know - - -
Usul - it's Herberts "freman word" for - "the strength of the base of the pillar"
Its Aribic meaning "fundamental principle(s)"
In Ottoman classical music, usul is "an underlying rhythmic cycle that complements the melodic rhythm."

So "Usul" fits really really well. :geek:

I have been using the multi technique of finger pluck, thump, tap, staying away from picks to keep hands free (where have i heard that before?).
everything is getting faster and more dangerous. 8-)

BUT! I still also give equal time to the 6 string (turned up to 11).

Looping will allow me to compose and play both. or just drive any one near me mad.

several times while exploring the fretboard I've suddenly discovered it was way later than i thought, so the NS is also a new form of time travel!!!

Usul update,

Finding a playing technique is accidental and rewarding, i'm finding my self pluck tapping on the neck with my right hand (with the occasional gentle slap) and playing "normal" mixed with tapping with my left, but moving and sliding like a fret-less, i think that's what going on....(never played a fret-less.. :? )
So as far as a playing technique,,, and thinking about it, i think it's better not too, so it just happens..... (got that?) and then it happens. It really happens...

I've been giving my 6 string guitar equal time, I'd arrange some drum patterns in AD in my DAW then start with the NS, then 6 string, I've come up with some huge dark walls of interesting patterns i need to sort out.
