Post many voices many choices........
So I've been, plucking, tapping, slapping, pulling, sliding, stretching,,,,,
the NS/Stick (Usul :ugeek: ) is hard to describe/explain as an instrument..... it's in it's own category... I've had to describe/explain it as a "super-bass" that you can also play like a guitar/piano, but it's more than that and can be simpler at the same time.

I came up with a backing drum beat to "jam" with an AD prog pattern.
and so far haven't been able to settle on any one riff or bass pattern, but saved them all as muted tracks. Too many cool things come out of this.
It's given me too many ideas. Guess I got to pick out 1 thing, see if I like it and concentrate on it. (indiscipline any one?) Build on that.

I've opened the gates.....

And the journey begins...

For me the NS is the perfect extension to the 5string bass playing I was doing before. I am now able to play the things that I hear in my head. We all hear things in our head right?

It's great that you are recording all those different lines. I know I have come up with so much but didn't record it and can't remember so many...

Something I found was that the more simple lines gave me a better starting point for a song. Get the song written first then build on that. Write things that support the song.
A riff/bass pattern is cool but without a song it's just a riff/pattern.
I sometimes play the pattern I came up with for four or eight bars then stop and think about what I hear as the next part.
Another thing I do is if I have a bunch of recorded things I will put them together like a puzzle in my DAW. You may have already recorded a full song and didn't know it. I love the DAW because I can move, copy, past, etc without playing any more and just be a producer. I sometimes find that there is a hole somewhere and I need to write a part in there but when the general song is done the holes are pretty easy to fill.

So much fun and creativity to be had!

Haha!

I used to look at a guitar (6 strings for those who don't know) and think that was too many strings...
So I played bass... then got a 5 string... Now I have an NS/Stick 8 string...
I may enter the realm of the "standard" Stick one of these days...

Actually I think I was comfortable getting into more strings because of the availability of good tuners...
When I first started playing there were just tuning forks or the pitch harmonica like thing... I really don't have great ears to tune to that...

Randy, sounds like you're pumped.!

Indiscipline, well I just put up the 3 Actions post, that might augment what you are saying.

So,,the DAW is on,,, jamming away on the NS, everyone's out doing something so I'm running without head phones, just rockin,, I get this cool grove going in E, really compressed with a slight phase, heavy driving beat, really edgy..... the attack on the NS's low notes is sooo punchy, loving it....
I save the track, arm another track for my 6 string to add some leads, put down the NS, pick up the Carvin and then it hits me,,,,,, I come to a full stop....... "WTF is up with this little tiny neck??"
wow......
