Nice to be in touch with the NS chaps.

I'm thinking either Interior 8 string Classic or Interior Dual Bass Reciprocal. Do any of you feel that DBR has any limitation with NS on the melody side? I own a 10 XG Stick, Classic tuning, so I'll probably leave the spread out voicing stuff to that instrument.

Crazy days. Now where can I find that 2G..?

I have a Godin fretless guitar - nylon strings - and it's ok on my side. I love it in fact...

about the degree of difficulty that a half fretless places on your technique
I've been playing a lot of fretless guitar and love that sound! For intonation you have to rely on hearing more than on visual neck positioning. A good thing with fretless is that in case one string is temporarily a bit sharp or low you can compensate by just rolling your finger tip a millimeter or two (until the show allows for reaching a tuning head to fix it). That kind of instant fix is almost impossible with a fretted instrument; if it is out of tune it mostly sounds out of tune.

Tapping on fretless is hard because you are never at the correct pitch at the very first attack, every note needs a short initial "intonation face-lift", so you really have to be careful when tapping fast melodies where the speed forces you to rely more on neck position than on hearing. A simple solutioin is to apply vibrato right from the start, that worked out very well for Mick Karn.

I say its almost impossible, using classical stick techniques in the left hand. But hey, thats a fun challenge and the tone is amazing with walking bass! Steve A needs to post more videos 8-)
