Post subject:  NS/Stick, questions about its history and development
I was interested in a bit more history about the NS/Stick. http://www.stick.com/history/timeline/ just lists just a few things about the NS.

1. What frets were first used?

2. Were FretRods ever used?

3, I see on the history page that smaller rails came in use August of 2010 but were the larger rails used prior and if so, when?

4. Were the bodies always 2 pieces of wood? If not, when did that change?

5. On models (around 2002?) there was an extra part cut out in the body around the middle of the pickup facing the bridge. Why was that there? Were other pickups used that had a mounting point there?

Hi Russell, a little history on the NS/Stick:

1. What frets were first used?
EC - Pressed in guitar frets with the first solid wenge necks, then with the graphite necks.

2. Were FretRods ever used?
EC - No, I skipped that phase. The Rods were part of the injected molded polycarbonate
Stick design and were lated applied to the hardwood

3, I see on the history page that smaller rails came in use August of 2010 but were the larger rails used prior and if so, when?
EC - Yes, in Aug. 2010 I changed over to the small 1/8" SS Rails from guitar frets.

4. Were the bodies always 2 pieces of wood? If not, when did that change?
EC - Some in one piece and some in two since the very beginning in Dec. 1999.

5. On models (around 2002?) there was an extra part cut out in the body around the middle of the pickup facing the bridge. Why was that there? Were other pickups used that had a mounting point there?
EC - Those little crescents that were centered at one side of each pickup aperture were there to make room for EMG's "Front Tele" wires exiting the bottom sides of those pickups. The later version has connector pins on the bottom, replacing the wires.

Thanks Emmett. This information will be useful to people considering a used NS/Stick. It appears that the key question (besides condition of the instrument) would be if someone had a preference of frets or rails.

This is good to know, thank you Russell and Emmett. We'll be featuring some NS players over the next few weeks including Michael Milsap (Dr. Froth), Dean Kobayashi and the Rocket Scientists featuring Don Schiff.

In a recent conversation with Gary over at SE, he mentioned that he is starting to explore 2-color sunbursts. His latest creation was featured out at the NAMM show, it's a green-yellow and black beauty.
