Back to the bridge mute.... I'm going to have to make one that I can turn on/off with one hand while playing. With reverb, I'm getting a marimba-like tone that I want to be able to switch to in the middle of songs. |

You can also mute the notes by playing right on top of the fret. This can be tough to do at first, but with a little practice it works great. Larry Tuttle and Tom Griesgraber are both very good at this. |

I Saw Phil Keaggy play a small house show the other night and he has a mute that he weaves over and under the strings. Parks it down at the bridge and then slides it up farther when he needs it. String tension (lack thereof) will be an issue on Stick. Too much mute tension will bend strings out of tune |

I just found 'the spot'. It's a lot more pronounced when you hit in FRONT of the fret. Makes sense... Your finger is tapping the note and then muting it by squeezing the string between your finger and the fret. COOL STUFF. Can't get it to happen on the low Bass strings (at least not in an obvious pronounced way like the melody strings). Another cool thing I have found is a slightly Sitar type overtone effect if I play in the middle between frets.
