Most everyone knows that I'm selling my NS Stick. I have a buyer who wants to transfer money into my PayPal account. I've never sold anything using PayPal. I'm pretty sure everything will be fine. But just to be safe, as a seller, what should I have in place before I ship this beast?? I want both parties to be satisfied with this transaction. If there is a better option available please inform me, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody. |

If I'm not wrong, there are certain safeguards in place for both the buyer and seller built in to the PayPal user agreement. However, if there are any grievances, a lot of people are happy to settle it among themselves. For example, I once sold a cymbal online, which I had won from Sabian Cymbals, and although it was a few years old, it was in like-new condition and I never gigged with it, although a couple of times I had played it to get a sense of its sound. I had listed it as "new" and disclosed its level of use. When the buyer got it, he noticed a small cosmetic blemish (a remaining ghost of a water spot), and complained to me about it. I was a little ticked off; you'll find brand-new cymbals in drum shops with 50 times the blemishes that my cymbal had, and to read him questioning my honesty about listing it as "new" was insulting. But I put on my customer service hat, and offered to refund the shipping that he had paid, which satisfied him. Bottom line: no outside party was needed, no arbitration was needed, and I refunded his PayPal account directly. Hopefully your transaction will need no such action; good luck with that, I'm sure it's going to go just fine. |

I have sold lots of expensive items using paypal and haven't been screwed (yet). There are some escrow services out there where a 3rd party holds and confirm's the money while the item is shipped and then waits for the buyer to approve the item before transferring the money to the seller. |

I sold a Kelstone to a guy in the area of Denver, Colorado. I don't know if he trusted me but I remember he sent me the money over Paypal and as soon as I've seen the transaction done, I sent him the instrument, giving him news everyday with the tracking system in place. Don't remember what was the company but it worked perfectly. |

I'm guessing paypal is fine from a seller standpoint, but from a buyer standpoint it's garbage. I once paid over $2K for an item via paypal to a seller who wouldn't deliver. Took me years to get the money back, and paypal wouldn't help. I finally got it back because I was reporting the seller to every fraud, better business, and other agency I could think of. Paypal buyers beware. |

have sold /bought lots of instruments over paypal.... have had no problems at all. |

Echoing what Alain said. There is a certain amount of trust that is presumed on the part of the buyer as they initiate the payment, after which you, as the seller, need to make good on. You will need an accurate and honest description and ship the instrument in a timely manner with good packing and always include a copy of the payment page (screen, whatev) in the package for reference. As Luc mentioned, there is one in every bunch, you are going to get some people who feel like the sun is just not bright and warm enough and want their money back. good to have a return policy. They ship it back on their dime and you reimburse them the cost of the instrument and perhaps 10 -15% for handling or re-stocking. Good to include that last bit somewhere in a conversation with them that is available to you should PayPal remediation be required. Which is a pain. Better to work it out 1:1. The first selling an expensive instrument is a bit stressful. Just don't ship it till you are paid in full. Often times, I will transfer money out of my account to a bank account before shipping. This will require at least 3 extra days of handling though. Best of luck with the sale. |

Thanks everybody for all the input. It's greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the sale didn't go through soooooooooooooooooooooo, my NS Stick is still up for grabs. Thanks everybody again for all the advice, and the well wishes for my family. Without getting into it, this has been a year of living hell for my wife and I. She had a near fatal accident at her place of work about 7 months ago. It has been a very, very, slow process to try to get back to some version of normal. We're still so far from it. Please keep us in your prayers. |
