1. Who would have guessed that Tele pups would be so awesome. I really need to re-evaluate all my other bass guitar choices. 2. The wide neck causes my wedding ring to go clack clack clack. 3. In solo mode, the skinny stings really suffer in terms of volume. 4. I constantly accidentally activate the damper. At my next string change I may see about installing some small rare-earth magnets so that moving the damper has to be more deliberate. 5. It's been a week and I'm loving this thing. That is all. |

Humbly I would like to state that In my dreams I am playing the NS as super bass. Many due to the hybrid techniques. Your questions are semi serious? Take off the ring, but I think your joking.... Melody side loss. Ok here is a trick. If your using a mono cable: turn both mel and bass sides down a tiny amount. Then muck about and the vol options are opened. I'm not sure what it is... Like I turn the bass side down a super tiny amount and the melody gets boost. IT works fine tho no complaints, thats how I roll. Specicpically for me: for slapping the pickups need to be raised on the neck side of the melody pickups. Otherwise the slaps were puny in dual pickup mode. That is to be expected tho of those higher strings slapping at lower vol... Damper: agreed: if you use it wide open(like me) just put a "thingamashnoober" of material to hold in in place, like stuffing a lil cotton or whatever... Cheers |

I played an NS Stick exclusively as a super bass in a rock cover band for about 2 years. (I kick myself for selling it) It works great however the thin strings sound THIN in the role of an 8 string bass that you can tap. If you really want the NS to behave better as a 8 string tap-able super bass you may want to call SE and talk to Emmet about it. He can recommend a different string set that would give the upper strings a more bass like tone. I think Don did this. |

Ned and I loved that wiry bass sound and Bob Turner of EMG rates it highest in his catalog. With so many strings and harmonic possibilities, there's something to be said for more transparency as long as the lead line still has some kind of "weight". What do you think of Hendrix's Fender sound? At high volumes, was it fat or was it thin? 2. The wide neck causes my wedding ring to go clack clack clack. EC - Me too on any 10-string Stick. I had to change my routine. Liberation? No, Yuta is just a very patient wife. 3. In solo mode, the skinny stings really suffer in terms of volume. EC - You can solo in stereo and turn down the bass volume, also in mono mode. Again, multi-string transparency was part of the goal. Certainly, thicker melody can be used, or in stereo mode, you can roll off the highs. 4. I constantly accidentally activate the damper. At my next string change I may see about installing some small rare-earth magnets so that moving the damper has to be more deliberate. EC - Under the disengaging damper are a pair of small Phillips screws which can be slightly turned lower for a tighter grip (maybe a quarter turn clockwise. Another remedy would be a slightly stronger or longer spring. 5. It's been a week and I'm loving this thing. EC - I like number 5 the best, still it's good to get all your views and first impressions. Good luck explaining the wedding ring problem to your wife. |

Also you can try compressing the whole thing in mono. I am sure you thought of this but it can make those skinny strings loud in a strange way. |

This is serious question: can you really not take off your ring?! I mean in general not "you". I would never wear a ring unless it was made of a fuzzy material. |
