Re: New JBA Video
JaphletBA wrote: Thanks again guys, honored! Steve, what is it that you are trying to translate from Piano to Stick? I'm not saying that our styles are necessarily similiar, but I do a New Age Progressive George Winston-style piano that I'd like to do on Stick. Listening to your expressive journeys, and explorations of melodies, makes me think that it'll be worth the efforts. I don't want to hijack your fine thread, but this kind of stuff on piano is what I want to do on Stick: And not technically complicated or complex stuff like this: But from the year and a half I've been working on it, I think it's just a matter of getting proficient at Stick, and then my style comes through no matter what instrument I'm mangling. What you're doing is where I'm working towards and I appreciate you sharing it with us!

Re: New JBA Video
Awesome stuff, Japhlet. I found this a few days ago and watched it with a friend, we really enjoyed it together.
The whole aesthetic of the music video is totally what I'm into -- nature footage, creative camera work, nothing too crazy just let the music speak for itself and let the video support the music.
I have a question for you -- technically speaking, when we see you in the video, playing Stick in a spotlight behind your laptop and gear on a table -- are you performing the actual audio we are listening to while watching? Since you have your whole rig set up for the video, I assume so.
In other words, is it essentially a live performance caught on video? Or was the audio recorded separately?

Same here, I want to play MY music on the Stick, not "Stick" music. No matter how un-technically proficient I am on whatever instrument I play, I wind up sounding like me. I had a drummer friend say the first time we played together, "You GET it!" , probably meaning I had time and groove, because this was a few years ago, (and I'm STILL not proficient.) But he added later, "I would like to hear you on bass." (where I come from, although I didn't even own one at the time). So to pull this back to the post, JBA burns with his own voice. All any of us should ask for...

Re: New JBA Video
Hey guys, Sorry, I was out of town. Flint: Yes, indeed, I took my stuff with me and performed live. First we went out and did the outdoor shots. On the last day I set up in the theater of the Museum of the State of Querétaro, and we did 3 live takes of footage. What we see is basically all of take 1, with maybe a few comps here and there. Thanks all for the wonderful feedback. Hope to be able to share more soon. Cds on the way!

Re: New JBA Video
Thanks so much Steve, Marty. Music, and touching people, and therapy for oneself, is after all why we play right? Big hug.
