Probably the closest Stick-related listening is Kenny Barron. What an incredibly broad musical palette this guy has. For fun, I've somehow ended up with Dick Dale, Reverend Horton Heat, and Man or Astro-Man?

Kenny Barron? Whoa. Not sure how his music relates to the Stick. I actually gigged with Kenny in the early 80's. A true jazz legend. And nice guy

Karnivool, - this Aussie quintet picked up where Soundgarden left off. I'm trying out Themata right now, but their sophomore offering is bordering on Superunknown kinds of awesome.
Tune-Yards, (<--if you watch one, watch this one), Merrill Garbus is one of the single most important musicians of the 21st century. It's all the fun of the B-52's, the musicality of Little Feat and brilliant songwriting of Paul Simon. All that AND live looping with drums and vox, they have no comparison.
Cocteau Twins, because they are my favorite band.
Tame Impala, A little further down the list, but I am still fond of Blair Witch style listening with this band - no screens, no distractions, just this album and those headphones.
I tried out Thrice, but it felt a little forced and I was not enticed by the heavy religious undertones. I also tried out Birds of Tokyo, but because they have the same singer as Karnivool (an odd arrangement), I was constantly comparing them to Karnivool and they fell flat.

Karnivool rocks, great stuff!
Why I like the Glen Gould recordings is because it feels like He's in my living room playing for me. The recordings of his inventions have good fidelity, but it's a pretty "live" room he's in I think!

Peter Gabriel - Digging in the Dirt
I wasn't listening to this song but I had written a hook that reminded me of it. Digging in the Dirt was then stuck in my head and so I loaded it up and listened to it... and the thing I wrote sounds nothing like it... but it's similar in the way the bass and hook work against each other in the intro. I have no idea where to take the song and so I think I will model the my song structure after Digging in the Dirt as a starting point.

The bit could have it's own thread for sure. I'm a fan of the Goldberg Variations and have both his original and more recent (1981 anyway) recordings of them. He is worthy.

Re: What are you listening to? And WHY????
In my car: (which is prolly the only place I can listen to music cranked up in peace) All of Andy Salvanos solo CDs because his playing fascinates me, Chet Baker's "Songs for Lovers" because he's the epitome of 60s cool west coast jazz and like "Blue" by Joni Mitchell, I will never get tired of it, Greg Howard's "Sol" because I like the Latin flavor he brings to Stick and I want to internalize some of that into my own playing, Sinatra's "In the Wee Wee Hours" just because I was probably conceived to a Sinatra record and his music runs in my veins. Mojo Monkeys' CD "Blessings and Curses" because they're the funkiest 3 pc blues/rock band around L.A. at the moment and they're friends of mine. This is them down at the corner bar.

Whoa, Mojo Monkeys get it. Sure does feel like a Fagen / Becker joint. Is it me or does this sound a little like Slang of ages? I like the Mojo's tune better for what it's worth
