Post Otherside - RHCP
So last night I had to put my dog down. She was an 11.5 year old giant schnauzer named Azi and in my opinion dog kind will be forever diminished now that she's gone. I don't like to speak of it publicly often but for a long time my family was very broken and isolated and this dog acted as an anchor that eventually brought us back together and healed us. There's a style of art from Japan called Kintsugi where broken pottery is mended with gold as the glue, and ultimately the mended item becomes more beautiful than the original ever could have been. This dog was the gold that mended the pottery of my family.

Unplanned, one of the songs I arranged this month was Otherside by RHCP, a song about death, loss, grief and love. It seems fitting to dedicate this rendition to Azi. As a Stick arrangement, this piece has several techniques and approaches that I consider staples for late intermediate players. As always, there are tabs and a performance breakdown at http://www.patreon.com/jgoldbergmusic. Enjoy!

Josh, sorry about the loss of your dog, Azi. I can only imagine how much she must have meant to you.

I can't load YouTube links as work this morning, but I'll definitely check out the link when I get home. Thanks for sharing the song and your loss with us. Lots of love at you and the family!

Sorry to hear of it. Several years ago we had a dog die that my wife had before we got married, and that she got just days after her first husband died of cancer. That was no easy time. And now we have a dog who is just over 15 whom we've had almost the entire time we've been married but who is probably not that much longer for this world. They indeed get tied up in our lives in ways that are profound.

It really is incredible what kind of depth a dog can bring to one's life.

So sorry about your Pup. I've lost a couple special dogs in recent years and it's heartbreaking. The time with them goes by too fast.

Yeah it does. She's out of pain now though so for that I'm glad.

Brother, I am SO sad for your loss. I was never allowed to have pets as a kind, and it wasn't until I married my wife 18 years ago that I married into a family of pet lovers... She had a beautiful dog, who was 4 @ the time... she passed 9 years later. Nothing could prepare me for the heart ache and grief that followed. Unless you have been graced by a dog being, one can not fathom the pain from that loss. Your beautiful metaphor of Ketsugi was really spot on!! Blessings to you...

No words are enough. Mine have all died in my arms thru the years. A big hug. It's all a friend can do at this times.
