It's exactly what I was thinking...it's not what you meant. I can tell you that I play a Godin MultiAct fretless (nylon strings) and I play rarely chords. I consider this instrument as a melodic one. Like a sax, a flute, a trumpet, etc...
If you call this a chord when there are 2 notes...it's possible but not easy to play. 3 notes...if they are aligned on the same position that's possible too. On my guitar I can play an A position chord with one finger all the second fret position...even though there is no fret. A little vibrato (like a violin or other fretless instrument) and you can reach your goal. To play a chord like C7#7b9...forget about it...
At the end of the day I prefer by far to play it as a melodic instrument. So many things to explore this way...glissando, slight out of tune if you wish, quarter tones (indian music), etc...
