Post Song Of The Month Suggestions time again
Hey folks. Happy Spring to you all. Hope the snow is gone and the birds are out chriping away. I know Ive been chipping and chopping away at my SG12.
Its time to think of more suggestions for the next SOTM for April. Any song getting a vote will be added. Songs that got a vote last month that will be added are:

Winner Take All ABBA
Careless Whisper George Michael
Under The Bridge RHCP
Walk On The Wild Side Lou Reed
Blister In The Sun Violent Femmes
Sundown Gordon Lightfoot

Looking for a few more suggestions. Remember suggest something you might want to work on for a concert or bar gig or perhaps an open mic thing. Things most people would recognize. If you suggest something and dont get any votes and you still want to do the song post it anyway. If Life gets in the way and you cant get a song done in a month post it down the road anytime. The month is just an arbitrary deadline. I think Gene is working on Mad World and Kev C was working on And I Love Her and RandO was working on something as well. Busy lives keep us from getting things done. Im a bit obsessed with trying to get to my 40 tune set list ( Which will take a year or so or likely more.) So I try to get them done within the month.

Looking forward to more suggestions and in a week Ill post the suggestions in a poll and we can vote on the April SOTM. I m curious what it will be.

Rob

Here's one that people either love, or hate. But it has a pretty basic chord structure, simple melody and a nice solo section without being too difficult.

Escape (the pina colada song) by Rupert Holmes.

I am going with the Gordon Lightfoot tune. That's a sweet little number.

For what it's worth, I can almost guarantee the following 5 tunes will get a good response in a solo Stick engagement. These 5 in particular I reserve as recovery songs (if I clammed up the previous tune) or ending a set.

1. Clocks by Coldplay
2. You Look Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton
3. Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder
4. Don't know why by Nora Jones
5. When you wish up on a Star by Harline / Washington

Those get more dollars in the tip jar than any other tunes, so those would by my adds. I mean, I already know those, so maybe I'm just stalling for time while I try learn up on Mad World. :D

I don't know that anyone is going to top that last version of "and I love her" Rob, really a great performance and production.

Really enjoying the series, keep the light lit Rob, it's showing us the way.

Thanks for your encouragement Gene. It’s this community that is pushing me to want to get better so I’m hoping this will help everyone else get better as well. I’ll add the songs to the list Some I want to learn some I’ve not heard of or am very familiar with which is part of the reason it good to get suggestions. If we play tunes the public likes we get more gigs. I’d love to see David Tiptons setlist.

Lightfoot.
Sundown is a beautiful song. I’d love to hear someone pull off Edmund Fitz.....I can’t play waltz time very well, something I need to work on...or something I wish could be demonstrated to me.

Cheers,
Kev

Ps.
Genes version of the Stevie Wonder song is pretty spanktacular for those who haven’t seen it...
