Re: K-mix users opinions
Canada Rob will have some nice input on that. I can't commit to having the K-Mix on the board as I like it too much on my desk!

Re: K-mix users opinions
I have this device. Not sure what ya called but it takes an xlr plug and changes signal to 1/4 and I think it gives a bit of a boost to the signal as well. I’ve used this with a ribbon mic in one of the inputs 3-8. It works fine. I can’t track settings for it though. I use my kmix to record into logic with all the time. Super easy to use.

Re: K-mix users opinions
Cool, good to know. I like plugging both sides of the Stick into, but then I am left wondering if when I plug in a Microphone (vendor unknown, but will check when I get back to Altadena tonight), if I am missing out on anything by using a cable that transmorgifies an XLR to 1/4.

Re: K-mix users opinions
I will be upgrading to the K-Mix very soon. Currently using the Allen & Heath ZEDi10FX which works well except for having fewer inputs and AD/DA converters. I've run out of inputs and need to update. Plus, I will be carrying the K-Mix on GreenElephantStudio.com... Coming very soon...
Having more inputs/outputs, powered by USB, and a smaller footprint is going to make things on my desktop much better...

Re: K-mix users opinions
Hey Dean it was you if I remember correctly that mentioned the kmix in a thread some time ago that got me looking into it. I love it. I’m sure you will too.

I've always thought the K-Mix would be the way to go. When I got the A&H ZEDi 10FX, I didn't have the same requirements I have today. Plus, costing less than half of the K-Mix is a big factor too... BUT I ended up using some Ebtech Hum Eliminators because of noise issues. If I don't need the Ebtech stuff then the K-Mix will not be that much more expensive... ha!

Re: K-mix users opinions
How are you guys using it?
1) are you plugging directly in and using the k-mix preamps? 2) is the k-mix where you are getting "tone beasics" --- preamplification, eq, compression if needed 3) routing? are you using aux sends and as individual fx busses? (any phasing problems doing a send/return in parallel) 4) internal fx?

Re: K-mix users opinions
I have had good luck with running it through channels 1 & 2. I would highly recommend using the interface so you can have a visual representation of all the features available. I have also run the Stick into inputs 3 & 4 with good quality sound.
The onboard effects are unimpressive. I like the EQ, the EQ is perhaps the best part. The compression is mediocre, I never use Gate (sorry Phil Collins fans), the reverb is not very good that was actually quite a blow as I had hoped it would be serviceable, it's not. I like the noise gate, handy for live performance.
Be sure to check your input trim when getting levels, that's bit of a gotcha.
I have successfully run delays and reverbs using outboard effects in mono and stereo, no phasing issues yet. Pretty handy.
The real value with this unit is that it acts as the monitoring source for recording, so, I hear what I am recording without ANY latency as I run the headphones from the KMIX. It's a perfect fit for me. I've also used it straight up with a K12 for live performances. A great lightweight option.

Re: K-mix users opinions
I've had mine for over a year now. I agree with all the opinions discussed so far. Gene is spot on with watching the trims, easy to make nasty sounds. It does sound of wonderful with one or two K12s. A full set up is 2 basses and NS/Stick. The kmix is great with instrument level signals, but I do run DIs on each bass, the stick get ch 1 & 2 and does fine. From the beginning, I've been using it with an iPad pro. That handles all my eq and fx. I use the onboard eq as sort of a global setting only. The iPad is running AUM to handle plugins, I control channel and fx parameters/on/off/fade with a Softstep2. Everything powered with a standard usb3 powered hub. I will add that good usb cables are essential. The difference is audible.
