New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
Recent flurry of human powered spammers from Russia, Ukraine and China; IP ban and accounts/posts deletions as usual for them.
For the time being, new user registrations onto this site will all go through admin approval to keep the forums clean from spammers. I'll revert it back to the usual user self-approval/email-confirmation when things die down.
Thanks to all who report spammers via the forum tool and via email!

Such a shame that spammers exist. Hate them. Thanks Manny for doing such a great job with the forum. You are indeed a great fellow.
Respect.

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
Currently not accepting new user registrations. This is temporary to hopefully thwart recent spambots attempting to register onto this site and get this site off of various "hit lists."
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
Implemented a new antispam measure for new user registrations. New user registrations are now accepted, although requiring admin approval for the time being so I can monitor the effectiveness of the new antispam measure. After indications of success, registration will not require admin approval, just the usual user email confirmation.
Thanks for your patience in all this and efforts with keeping this site clean of the scum spammers.

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
The new antispam mod is working great. New user registation is back to user confirmation without the need of admin approval.

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
Is this why I now get this error message when using Google Chrome? Quote: You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below. ...and then there is no CAPTCHA image below. Kind of Catch 22 situation, since I need to solve the CAPTCHA before typing in my password! Luckily I still have Firefox logged in with my password in the cache. Weird. (posting this from Firefox as you might have guessed

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
Hmm, I'll work on this. Meanwhile, I've up'd the failed login attempts to 5 attempts.
Thanks for this heads up!

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
I was able to get around the issue by starting Firefox and go into my User Control Panel to change the password. I then changed it back to my usual password. After that I could log in with Chrome.

Re: New User Registration Now Requires Admin Approval
I had the same problem and I'll give you my secret. I have a PhpBB and spambots know how this kind of forums work. I configured it to receive a notification when someone register, and I had to confirm them. Problem, I received to much notification every days!
So I changed the name of the php file used for registration (with a personal name), and replace it on other files who called it (search&replace with a text editor).
Since, no spam!
