I usually don't like what Boris could do with his Stick , I prefer to be honest. But this one is simply moving, I just love the way he blends his ancient culture with some modern music tools.

Boris in a trio. Starts out nice and spacey, and there is an excellent groove section toward the end as well. RSS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uszA9lRWdHY

Re: Whoa, Boris Bazurov! "Out" is what it's all about.
Love these two latest videos. Thanks Greg, for posting them. I can't help but smile and even grin as I hear Boris' performance and concept of music, which is not his alone but part of ancient history. I think I'd follow him to the ends of the earth if only I could understand old Russian and Asian folklore. I do feel his commandments but to what end I don't know. That's where it hits you powerfully, in the solar plexus, that is, subconsciously.
Love the rangy Stick chords in 4ths and sus 4ths, the clashing orchestras of sound, also the Mongolian throat singing. His chanting vocal style on the downbeats reminds me of the Native Americans who arrived here from middle Asia long before Amerigo drew his maps and made himself famous on two new continents.
His left thumb (only Boris and Bob?) enables him to reach and grasp his positions by feel alone, playing the intervals instead of the notes, and thus expressing them rhythmically (funky fingers against rock solid voice).
That percussionist seemed to have a whole trap set contained in that little drum, quite a great addition to the concept. Loved it all!

After reading Emmett's post about Boris' trio effort, I wonder what is his greater pleasure... his marvelous Stick creation or witnessing what others have done with it?

Re: Whoa, Boris Bazurov! "Out" is what it's all about.
The Stick is of course just an instrument for the music. Exploring the musical universe takes first priority, and at the top of my list is my own exploration, followed closely by everybody elses. I wouldn't want to get carried away with the instrument itself (or make it too pretty) because it's supposed to be "instrumental" to the greater goal. There is an austerity in its design but definitely not in the music of its players.
IMO there's austerity in Boris' vocals but not in his Stick technique, and the complimentary contrast is powerful. "Ouch" is what it's all about.
Thanks Dubyasee, for asking. Best, Emmett.

And The Decleration Of Independence is just a piece of paper. Noooooooooo!
Our music is an evolution. The Stick is the revolution!
