Post Securing the strap lock
What are your methods for securing the strap lock?

Several times it has happened to me that the Strap loses its lock. I've been lucky to catch the Stick every time, as I always play in a standing position, but if this should happen while my left arm happens to be stretching out for adjusting a mixer fader the Stick could easily fall to the floor and get hurt. I'm the kind of soft and caring type that don't feel comfortable with fine instruments getting crushed.

How old is your strap, and do you take it on and off the strap lock frequently?
My older Stick was made in 1984 and the oval hole in the end of the strap seems worn. It comes off once in a rare while. The strap on my newer Stick has never come off yet.
Maybe it is time for a new Strap. Or a new Stick! (Like one of those aluminum ones)

You can also get a new strap lock. They get worn after a while and don't have the resistance needed to stay locked. . It's maintenance. Easy replacement.

My oldest STick is two years. My youngest Stick is one year. I only use the two year old strap and don't think it is particularly worn out, even though I play every day. I think I will tie some thread around the Stick head for a more secure hook. For my tenor sax I use trustable dog leash equipment and it has never let me down.

I had this happen after 8 years of playing. Called Stick Enterprises and they sent me a new lock at no charge. Awesome customer service! A few twists of the screwdriver and good as new.

I wear mine out fairly quickly & replace it approximately once a year. Easy to order with a set of strings (which I try to change at least twice a year  ). Not so worried about damaging the solid Ironwood Stick, but I almost knocked someone in the head once, which could have had severe repercussions.

I have also broken quite a few belt hooks, so this rounds out the order...

If all else fails, there's always duct tape.

Cheers,
Andy

You can also find replacement strap locks online. They are marketed as "Common Sense" fasteners. You can find them at Marine supply retailers.

Take care,

Paul
