Has anyone suffered from Stick-NO-phobia?
Has anyone suffered from Stick-NO-phobia?
This comes about during certain absences of Chapman Stick
For example > when your only Stick is out for upgrades or (Like Me) are new to the Stick world and are waiting for your first order to be filled.
Symptoms include (but are not limited to)
1) Checking email frequently during the day – even though you know it will take weeks for your order to be completed. 2) Looking at every Stick related post on Stickist forum. 3) Spending hours everyday looking at Chapman Stick related You Tube videos. 4) Looking at the “Hot Shots” gallery on Stick.com over and over, day after day. 5) Looking at the Reserve production pictures and thinking “Could I buy one of those as a spare, while I wait for my Stick to come home?”
If you have suffered with one or many of these symptoms and have over come them, please provide methods for relief of this terrible problem.

Re: Has anyone suffered from Stick-NO-phobia?
I definitely had that after placing my order for my first Stick! I would add some other symptoms:
- tuning a guitar you have at hand like the melody part of your 12-stringer (BEADGC) - tuning a bass you have at hand in fifths, at least partly (DAE) - tapping the Air Stick, which is best done in private since it looks kinda weird like you wanna hug yourself or something. - Mentally figuring out certain chords in the fifths tuning (when you're waiting for your first Stick at least) and "converting" some riffs you know well on the regular bass.
The remedy is simple: GET YOUR STICK! hehe. Barring that, having a 1-year old kid climbing you and chasing him around constantly can distract you for a considerable amount of time.

The very great Steve Adelson spoke to me of the cure. And he said: Always have two sticks, so one can be IFR (in for repair).

Re: Has anyone suffered from Stick-NO-phobia?
I've suffered from all of these at different intervals.
Just accept the truth, we're a Stickists and there is no cure. My current Stick-NO-phobia involves not practicing at all for 8-10 days because I'm in for physio. I'm starting to get a bit antsy after the 4th day.
It's a good reset period though.
Let me check out Bob's latest video again.....?!

After I got a chance to play one I suffered from #2-5. I do not own one so the first doesnt apply. Although I would add a 6th for us without a stick to begin with. Since I touched one I havent picked up any of my other instruments for about 3 weeks. Which is strange compared to the multiple hours they would spend in my hands each day.

I'm off for the next 6 days Evan if you want to come down. It's no problem at all and feel free to stay as long as you like.
cheers kev

Stick-NO-phobia is now a music video on YouTube. I could not resist and made a funny video of this medical condition. Enjoy http://youtu.be/92Px2svaFkUCliff

Hahahahaha awesome! Reminded me of Jack White at the beginning of It Might Get Loud (he used a Coke bottle and a real pickup tho). Who says you need to buy a Stick? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ7DZ7HPXckNow you have to post the instructions to build a DIY Can Stick!
