After a quick Google, I found: http://www.grunthos.demon.co.uk/glasgow_walker.htm
So he has recorded at least a handful of tracks with John Martyn.

John also appears on Jim's 'Greazy' CD.

What surprises me about this track is the bass sound. It's raspy almost like a fretless bass.

Honestly ... i love Jim's work ... his work on Stick night 99 was great too. Being a person who owns a Stick AND NS Stick .. I sometimes think when I see Stick players using their Sticks to play single note bass lines to accompany right hand chords that they would be better off to ALSO have an NS Stick. Maybe i just think that way because i have both and would use the NS if I weren't going to do chord work with my left hand. ................... But I guess that's really a different subject! ;)

I believe that I have heard from some forum members that Jim uses fretless simulation. Does anyone know the brand he uses? I am looking for that sound! I know that the Digitech BP80 and BP50 have that feature. They are fairly cheap, has anyone used them?

Hi Eric, I have used the BP (I sold it); you might be able to find the sound you are looking for there but unless you want it dirt cheap I would try the small guitar processor : (still cheap) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=156607
instead.
In my most recent effects phase I have been using that on the bass side with very happy
results. It has a little broader palette than the BP which brings out the one and two position
strings on the bass side. It is also very fun to play lead guitar like sounds on those strings
and there is a pretty good "Slow Gear" or volume swell in there too. You could probably tweak a fretless. :geek:
Best.

Jim's such an amazing, complete player. I've never been a fan of his vocal style though.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi grozoeil, the one I used was almost the size of a single pedal stomp box,
a shade bigger. let me see if I can find one. Ah yes http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--DGTBP50 I have never seen the one that Gillermo Cides has but I would think that
it is very possible that that both processors have the same electronics and the "Fretless Simulator.

Back from the Toulon seminar where Jim played, I saw his rig : he's still using the BP80 for the bass side (only for one sound, the defretted one) and guitar rig with a Mac laptop for the melody side. A bit weird to play live, because of the little latency of the signal  but the sound was incredible

I'm just trying to be sure here. Is he using the newer BP80 now or the old BP8?

Thanks,

-Eric
