Post Stick Science - Double Fisting
So I thought I'd belatedly start out the new year with a Stick Science video. This one deals with the topic of two handed improvising, or basically making up music with both hands simultaneously. This is a topic I've honestly been a bit intimidated to approach, because there's so much to talk about and so much more to master and there are so many established players that I'm sure have done it differently than me. I feel like a lot of it has to do with understanding where your fingers are relative to each other and relative to the beat, as well as understanding your scales across the entire neck.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it. Let me know what you think!

Many thanks!

And a fine topic as usual - autopiloting is on the table here too.

Great ideas. Hans independent is one of the many things I need to work. Your ideas will be really helpful. Thanks.

I always enjoy your videos, Josh. Echoing the above sentiments, I'm glad you discussed this one and your staged approach already has me thinking about things to do next time I pick up the Stick. Thank you.

the autopiloting part sounds a lot like your teacher. I really like your visual demonstration, and knowing your music, I like that you are using examples from your actual songs.

Good point. I never really consciously thought of it before, but it seems that in nearly all of Josh's videos, he uses some licks from his music. It really helps reinforce the practical application to these concepts and exercises.

How the hell do you snap your fingers so loudly???
That was good, Josh. I like how you keep your examples musical...speaking as an ex-drum teacher, I know it can be really hard to keep musicality when trying to develop independence if you focus only on the mechanics while lacking context. In other words: how does the independence/coordination serve a song?
Good job, sir.
