Lap Bar
Hey.
So I need a good lap bar but I don't have $180 to drop on a lap dawg. Can anybody recommend a good wood bar or maybe plans or a good DIY tutorial on how to make one?

Re: Lap Bar
Steve, Why yes I can! http://www.stickist.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8204&hilit=+holderyou can make this for $5 dollars! with a hobby board, some glue and two wood screws, and I made a video and gave you a pdf template. I use it and can play for 3 hours without a break. Greg helped me design it with a design engineer many years ago. enjoy, many famous Stickists own this, but out of discretion I will not disclose their names, and they are very happy with it! hope you enjoy it too, Dave B "DBro"

Re: Lap Bar
Thanks Dave!
Today's exactly what I need!!!
What would the optimal dimensions of the piece of wood be?
I ask because I would love to get a piece of Tarara to match my stick cut it all out and finish it with Danish oil.

Re: Lap Bar
Steve, A piece 18" by 5 1/2" will do. The Hobby boards are usually 24" by 5 1/2". As Mary Tyler Moore would say on the old Dick Van Dyke show... "oh Rob!" Yes, Kev I think 425 degrees is just about right for the Magic Oven! Ding! Just to reiterate - NO STICKS WERE HARMED IN THE FILMING OF THIS VIDEO- my Polycarb fell into a lush comforter and some pillows, ProTools added a very large x-fret double handed chord mixed with a timpani sample! and my wonderful daughter Emily flew it in at the right spot on iMovie. No tricks on the ping pong hit- I dood it! It's that stable. If you want to oil it, go right ahead, just don't wear khakis! all the best Steve, Dave B "DBro"

Re: Lap Bar
I have the one from the video. Yes, it is a collectors' item. It has already doubled in value. They work. It is much more convenient than putting on a belt, and if I want to take notes or Skype, it is nice to be seated vs. standing.

Re: Lap Bar
Well here it is! Wow! Where the hell was this my whole Stick playing life!?! I spent $10 bucks and 3 hours (with help from my handy and sexy glass artist/engineer lady friend) have a whole new perspective on an instrument I've been playing for 8 years! Playing my Stick is now effortless, in fact I had no idea how much range and comfort I was cutting myself off from, it's like night and day! I can play the whole Stick with ease and comfort! I went from this: To this: I love my Dbro Starship Lapbar™! Dave thanks again, I'm never going back! Thank you, thank you thank you thank you!
