Post NS/Stick™ One Year later - Review and Follow-Up -Russell Kea
When I bought my NS/Stick I wrote a review about. It has been one year since then. Here is the follow-up. In it I address some points from the initial review, point out some new things and talk about some modifications that I've made.

Very cool, Russell. The wiring mod is an excellent idea. I'll encourage Emmett to adopt it.

Russell,
Great contribution to the forum and specifically to the NS Stick. Hats off that Greg is going to suggest your mod be adopted.

IMHO, you ARE Mr. NS Stick!

to quote Cole Porter

You're the top!
You're the Coliseum.
You're the top!
You're the Louver Museum.
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss
You're a Bendel bonnet,
A Shakespeare's sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile,
You're the Tower of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, baby, I'm the bottom you're the top!

kudos, and congrats,
Dave B "DBro"

I like the wiring mod, though I am tempted to come with something a bit more...interesting.

What Dave said. Exactly.

Man, this was really fun to read. This is what I have found about Stick players who pick up an NS Stick. They can't put it down.

I think Brett told me that one.

Really great article Russell - posted to FHA site for reference.

Thanks for all the replies! I hope these articles will be of value to anyone contemplating an NS/Stick purchase.

Greg, I'd be honored if Emmett used that wiring mod. Keep me posted. Thanks.

Great idea re wiring mod! Technically one could then run separate effects on neck and bridge pickups, cool!

Thanks, Russell, that was insightful and well-written. You're a great witness on the instrument.

What do you see as the practical usefulness of your wiring modification?

This mod allows tone and volume changes to be applied to all 8 strings equally without having to be concerned about matching the tone/volume the string groups. In addition, this mod give some other sound options not available with the stock wiring.

Details:
You can mix the volume of the pickups between neck and bridge. With the stock wiring they are either on or off.

Since the volume knobs don't control the different string groups, you can adjust them without having to worry about keeping the volume of the string groups balanced.

You can add/subtract bass/treble without having to turn those knobs an equal distance to keep the tone of the string groups balanced. Applying separate tones to the pickups gives different sounds when blended.

You can set the DIP switch for the treble controls differently between neck and bridge without unbalancing the string groups. This ends up giving you more variety since the treble controls are working on different frequencies, but still being applied to all 8 strings. NOTE: This would obviously deviate from stock when you switch out of my mod since my mod doesn't control the DIP switches.

The neck and bridge pickup outputs can be handled separately (each includes all 8 strings,) by sending them to different effects, amps, 2 tracks for recording ...

and if you don't need any of that you can return to stock with a press of the volume knob
