Re: New Stick.com site is live
Just a minor teething issue: on a mobile device the images on the front page take a long time to load. The JavaScript auto-advances to a new image every few seconds, but the picture hasn't loaded in time and a white box is displayed. Looks a bit bad. Normally the JS would preload the images into browser memory and then cycle between them without any loading delay. Also, are the images too large?
Hope this is helpful.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Hi Andy, very helpful comments. The old site was not good for mobile browsers, and that was the main reason for the upgrade, as so many people surfing are using mobile devices, and that will only increase over time. Will work on the images. . Just for my reference, what kind of service do you have (3G,4G?) and what OS/browser? How does the rest work for you? Thanks again for the feedback. Greg

I certainly appreciate the kind comments on the old web design. Honest! It served for about 14 years which is incredible in this day and age. I have to point out, however, that the old site was pretty much unusable on any mobile devices which, if you believe the traffic reports, is where a good bulk of the visits are coming from these days.

Meh, I kinda like the old one better too. Is the Hot Shots gallery still up? I couldn't find it on the new site. We need our Stick porn.

Re: New Stick.com site is live
I understand that the page architecture itself was not kind to mobile devices, but was it really necessary to go with a totally different display and navigation scheme? I have seen plenty of “old school” site layouts which use contemporary architecture to be friendly to mobile devices. The old Stick Enterprises website was brilliant in that I could find useful information, quickly, whilst always knowing where I was in relation to the other parts of the site. The new layout does away with all of those advantages in favor of mimicking an image gallery. Having said that, the new instrument page layouts are a tremendous improvement. If I may make one request, then I would like the All Tunings page to be brought up to date—including functional links for every tuning (e.g. the link for Matched Reciprocal SG12 tuning is broken, as it was before the redesign, seemingly because someone made the relative link “./” instead of “../”).

For what it's worth, I visited the old website fairly regularly and was able to view it on my cell with no problems whatsoever. Not sure what's up with that, but had I noticed I would have brought it to someone's attention.

Hi Rob, Thanks for the feedback. I have a long list of pages still to update. The comparative tunings page is now mostly done (I still need to make it "responsive"), and thanks for the heads up on the bad links. I'm sure once you've spent some time with this site you'll feel comfortable finding your way around. I've probably looked at the old site more than anyone, so I'm still retraining myself. Anything else you find, please feel free to pass it along. Greg

robstafarian wrote: the new instrument page layouts are a tremendous improvement. I disagree, totally. I don't say this to start a brawl or to upset anyone, but SE is sacrificing a very well-organized, concise and professional-looking website in order to make thousands of mobile users aware of a website which looks like tappistry.com with randomly-placed sliding galleries. Certainly, SE knows their demographic better than I, but I just don't think that's a good trade. It seems more likely that if some dude is looking to buy a tapping instrument, he will seek out and procure the best instrument irrespective of whether or not he can look at the site while surfing on his iphone 6. The menu should be on the left, underneath the Stick's distinctive logo. The words, "stick community" should be removed immediately from the top of the page. The speed of the sliders is too fast and is jumpy on my Samsung Galaxy 6. A minimalistic color scheme is attractive to the eye. No color scheme is lifeless and will not keep the attention of the viewer. A blog format belongs on the blog page, not on every page. Things like that. K Rex

Re: New Stick.com site is live
I looked at it on a phone and it looked good but I figured it would look bad on a desktop. I was pleasantly surprised to see on the desktop the page actually expands and uses the full width of the screen. That is a very nice touch!
Still not a big fan of phone optimized web pages since the reduced screen size menas they can't be as good as a page that has all the desktop area available. Oh well, what are you going to do? Now you kids get off my lawn!
