Hi Everyone, The latest addition to the Stick.com online videos page is Emmett's "Parallel Galaxy" from the Hands Across the Board VHS video: http://www.stick.com/onlinevideos/parallel_galaxy.htmlI love watching Emmett's hands play all of the interwoven arpeggios, with each hand reaching across the whole instrument, fingers flying. Joe McCollam wrote a really nice article and transcription of the piece here: http://www.stick.com/articles/mccollam_parallel/And the video is also up on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqbS6BLfJpo

"Hands Across the Board" and the Parallel Galaxy album happened around the same period (mid 1980s), but Emmett had been wowing people since the early 1970s, turning on many thousands of people to the instrument through his performances. More videos to come from EC!

I think it's because so many of us are fairly new to the Stick and think of Emmett as the inventer and father of the instrument we've fallen in love with more then a musician/performer. Obviously Emmet had and has a lot to say as a musician and it's great to see and hear the master at work!!! Thanks for sharing ... I'm going to have to order Emmett's CDs and DVDs!!

Hi Ray, The "Parallel Galaxy" CD is great music and a great example of fearless jazz improvisation, and of the Free Hands method's capabilities. Emmett didn't use overdubs in his recordings, so you can really experience the instrument taken to its limits. His solo on "My Favorite Things" is full of golden moments, and "Pumpernickle Pump" (which is one of the tracks on the SE MySpace page), is one of the greatest compositions ever written for the instrument. A lot of artists take a more cautious road in their music, especially when they are working in an "established genre." Emmett just plays what comes, from his imagination and from the moment. He's a true original.
