Tap Theory materials for free
Hey all, got some news! I'm going back to school in the fall to pursue forensics as a career choice! With this, I've made all the instructional materials over at
http://www.patreon.com/jgoldbergmusic free to anyone interested!
Why you might ask? A few factors:
I dropped out of school to perform music maybe 10 years ago and short of a giant multinational tour, I've done just about everything I've wanted to do. I've had the good fortune to tour extensively around the country with multiple acts, be flown to different places as a hired gun and to play original music, played internationally, played on records with some heavy hitter names and some of my all time favorite musicians (Dweezil Zappa, Travis Orbin, Mike Kenealy, Marco Minnemann), made music I'm super proud of with extremely talented players, left my mark on this instrument and have received support from Stick Enterprises and Emmett himself multiple times, and made some of the dearest friends I ever could have asked for.
I turned 30 this month and I still make the same amount of money as I did when I was 20. You'd think 10 years and lots of positive momentum in a career would translate being able to make a decent living for myself but I currently have 6 sources of income, including 2 part time jobs on top of all my teaching, regularly work 10-14 hour days, and I can mostly pay my bills. Even then, my income is really unstable and I stress about it a lot. I'm tired of living this way and I'm honestly pretty burnt out.
On top of that, my interests are changing. Tap Theory's educational schedule kept it difficult for me to find time to write and be creative, and I'm overall a different person than I used to be. It's cool, I'm excited for the future.
I recently released an EP, and then played a killer show with GEPH (probably our biggest Boston show to date) where we premiered a new song, and tonight I have a friend coming by to drop a saxophone solo on another song I'm working on. After 10 years of teaching and scraping by I'm ready to find another source of income so I can focus on the aspects of music I love the most.
So to reiterate, if you've been interested in the supplementary materials I've made at all, they're now available for free at
http://www.patreon.com/jgoldbergmusic. I might still release instructional stuff from time to time, who knows. If you ever got anything from these videos, that's all I could ever hope for. Thanks for watching!
