Not about our current 114 degree temps. The Gershwin tune. FYI....Wes Montgomery wrote and performed a tune called Four on Six based on Summertime chord changes. One of his best. Love his many versions. In 2001 wrote and recorded a similar tune with Larry Coryell called Nine on Twelve. Fun to play on The Stick

Thanks. That's one version. Wes recorded this tune at least 4 times. Of course when you hear him play his actual version of Summertime, you can hear this fourths bass line at the beginning of the solos. Wes' playing style is great to study and admire. His groove, his ideas, his compositional style of improvising are all of the highest level.

Fucking monster. I used to try to keep up on bass w/ a guitarist I "Real-Booked" with in my pre-Berserklee days...

I picked that one because it was the only one I found that wasn't simpel still image. That video of his technique is amazing. Hard to believe he did all that with a thumb without seeing it!

How's this for an example? 'Wes Montgomery and Nat King Cole Style Trio - Summertime (1958)'

Wow! I thought I had heard everything by Wes, but I never encountered this version. Incredible! The tone is not as warm as later recordings but his melodic/harmonic ideas are still great His solo concept is already in place, single notes then octaves then a chord solo. FantaStick! The version I alluded to was with his brothers I believe. That's where you'll hear the 4 on 6 bass line for Summertime Thanks a million

Happy to help Steve.
Sometime ignorance can be an advantage. You don't know what not to look for. LOL!
