Hi,
I've added an update to the story on my site about how downloads of one of my first Stick recordings, made in 1995, were released worldwide last year, without any permission from, valid contract or other arrangement made with me and for which I have never been paid anything at any time.

Subsequent to the original article which some of you may remember reading, I spent most of last summer right up until Christmas fielding emails from Mungo Jerry (Ray Dorset) and his advisors, friends and associates of one kind or another, which seems to have been rather a waste of time.

I have, therefore, written the update, here :

...for several reasons:

1) chiefly to warn others of what could also happen to them, even when dealing with well-known people and companies who you might think didn't need and could afford not to rip off people like me,

2) to set the record straight about what transpired in the correspondence last year, and

3) as probably my only means of drawing a line under the whole thing - although, the downloads are still, very annoyingly, out there and continue to cause me considerable problems one way and another.

The article has a "Digg" button and a "share" button, please use those should you feel inclined to do so, on the grounds that people should be aware that this kind of thing goes on, that it can and does happen - and most importantly and above all, that doing so might just possibly prevent this from happening again to somebody else.

I don't know how you remain so calm - apart from the fact that you are.

I wonder if HMRC would be interested in Mungo's/Cohen's affairs??? Undoubtedly some tax evasion going on there. Although there is that Karma thing that will hit them sometime. Mind you, looking at that picture of Raymondo, maybe it did already!

Obviously the person I contacted at iTunes who promised to look into it didn't do anything other than look.

I hope one day you get to draw a line under all this.

Yes, I tried to draw a line under this back in 1997 by just walking away from it and ignoring it, but it came back to cause more problems for me twelve years later as I sat on the other side of the world minding my own business... Calm ? Well, just resigned to it now, really, but feel quite strongly that nobody else should have to put up with what I went through.

As for HMRC, well, I have little doubt that somebody, somewhere, has had a most irritating and frustrating enquiry case on their hands for ages and I rather pity whoever it is or was - beyond that I wouldn't venture to comment.

Karma ? It can be complicated and isn't always easy to perceive accurately - perhaps sometimes it manifests in quite unexpected ways - which of us can really say ?

I'm not surprised that iTunes didn't answer, but thanks for trying - every download site that I initially contacted on discovering their existence completely ignored me too. Better not to waste time on it but play your Stick instead !

well, the recording isn't very good... it was my busking set from when I'd only been playing a short time (and the playing itself could also be better - - but I guess anyone in my position at the time would have gone with the deal they offered.) Plus, I have around ten other CD's which I think are actually a lot better, more recent (and very different) - I'd actually conditioned myself over the years into believing that this one didn't exist, until those downloads surfaced... (what was that I was saying about karma earlier ?)
Anyway, thanks for the thought !
