Not such an inspiration, but greeaaaaat musicians : I've just purchased the second and latest Cynic opus, Traced in Air



Sean Malone is playing Stick, but I can't find the tunes in which he plugged his Stick (in fact, I just can't each instrument part, but the whole, which is a good sign I think)
I think he's mostly play fretless bass (his trademark). Oustanding cd, really (perhaps my best purchase in 2008). Check them, and if you get the opportunity to hear them live on tour with Opeth, don't miss them!!!

I just got this today, it's sounding FANTASTIC so far! Slightly Tool-ish in the guitar parts and percussion, but still has a good bit of Cynic feel. The first track is definitely Stick and probably the last track, at least initially, but the other tracks generally sound like bass. Will confirm after a few more listens. Wonderful sound, regardless, plus great mixing for a "heavier" album.

I've also discovered/ordered some great albums from Ohm, Tuner and Frost. Ohm's self-titled album is also great - prog-fusion/jazz, roughly similar to LTE and maybe even 05Ric/Gavin Harrison without the vocals. Will post reviews of the Tuner and Frost albums when they arrive after Christmas.

Frost? Is that the extreme metal band from Scandinavia, or another band?

Their founder member, Jem, was on the pre-meltdown Stick forum...I don't know if he ever landed a Stick though.

I like the album...it's got 'It Bites' and 'Kino' connections...prog-pop?

I didn't read up on Frost much, but the album I ordered was Milliontown. Reminded me a bit of OSI.

I've had this album playing constantly in my car for a few days and man, I love it! It's very technical and reminds me a lot of Opeth, which is totally fine by me, as I'm a huge fan of theirs. It's one of those albums that's a bit tough to get into, but when you do, it's a knockout! I really hope they continue to tour with Opeth and head down under with them later on, it would be great to see something different!
