Re: New cynic...full show 2014
I saw them live a couple months ago. I had never really heard them before, but I wanted to see Sean Malone play.
I bought their "Kindly Bent to Free Us" album at the show and listen to it quite regularly. Kicking myself for not getting a shirt too.
If I could pick a weakness it would be vocals (the heavy processing is a bit distracting) and the lyrics, but that's nit picking.

Yeah, I would probably like it alot more now if I had not heard 'focus', the first album and all the sweet demos. The gueral vox were better than and the vocoder was better than the auto tune he uses now. A weird switch. I think he had a guitar synth and then used it with a vocoder in the 94-95 ish era. Then he heard brittany and needed to go that route. Ha
* it is a tragedy that malone does not play much (any>?) stick live. Whack. I know he is a fretless wizard , but some of those tracks really could use some stick. Seriously malone should play stick live on at least 2 + tracks and not an interlude or mellow part. If I ran the universe right...

He played stick on two (one and a half, really) songs when I saw them. We weren't sure, going into the show, if he would play any stick at all. We took a break to get some air between bands. When we came back into the venue, Jim Meyer was so excited to see a stick on stage, he punched me it the arm. (I think he was just trying to get my attention, LOL)

I like this music...rock and the singer is not always screaming like a fool...quite cool on this side. I was wondering if an NS stick would do the job as good as the stick itself. Maybe the guy plays other styles when he's alone...good music...

Kataway, you might like Malone's project called Gordian Knot. It's instrumental progressive rock/metal with Stick.
