When I was a practicing electric bass player (70's and 80's) there were guys who made me want to throw out my basses, Jeff Berlin was one. And there were guys who made me want to practice more, like Jaco.

Greg always makes me want to practice. Bob Culbertson on the other hand....CRIKEY!!!!!!! :o

I think you gotta have both.

Brett

Dude, we have a parallel existence Brett! I remember hearing about that guy and finally got the BIll Bruford album one of a kind album. You just feel like a hack, still, we press on! :D

Brett, such a kind and undeserved compliment. But I must agree, when I listen to my playing it makes me want to practice, too ;)

Definitely a Stick Classic....!

"Hey what a minute what's that... that's the creep." Actually you are so lucid on this performance Greg, it's kinda scary, in a most beautiful way.

Rad,

Thanks!

Whenever I'm making these videos at home I find my mind wandering back and forth between concentrating on the music and analyzing what the hands are doing.

I suppose it's an offshoot of teaching. I've played this song more than 1000 times, but still have to be "aware" of certain things, and of course it's different feeling on the Grand than on the 10-string. Makes me glad I went from Baritone Melody to Classic Grand rather than from Classic, as the "inside" game hasn't changed.

I hope I get to play it for you face-to-face someday.

Happy 20th Anniversary of Stick Figures!

Stick Figures was the first all-stick album I heard, back in 1995, and it's still my favorite. I love the tone of the instrument, the space in the arrangements, the clarity and intention in the performances, and the variety across the compositions. This album inspires me to keep on learning and practicing and playing!

Bravo!

Thanks, Christian,

Glad to hear it still holds up for you. For those of you who are interested in learning the tunes on this record, two of them ("Sunday" and "Charmed Life") are in the Stick Book, Volume 1, and four more are in The Greg Howard Songbook, "Adrift", "Morning Song", "Softly She Walks" and "Blue Ridge", along with 7 other complete arrangements of original Stick songs.

Both books are available from Stick Enterprises:

http://www.stick.com/instruction/books/

and the songbook is available from my website:
