A very, very rough (and slow) read-down of a small bit of Paganini's Caprice No. 5. I suppose this would be the most recogniseable part of the piece. It was fun, and a bit of a finger-twister. It's only at about 80 bpm, and it's not complete, so please don't hold that against me. I just thought I'd share this bit so y'all could have a laugh. I didn't spend too much time on it, but it signifies the close of the first 4 hours of today's practice.I was practicing other stuff, this I only spent about 20 min on... Yes, it's a bit sloppy and kind of rushed - I was kind of working out the bass part as I read it down (There is no bass part really, as it's intended for solo violin) I just used the first note of every beat as my accompaniment. So yeah, no big whup, just a quick run-through. https://soundcloud.com/jayesskerr/stick-caprice-no5-excerpt |

It’s good fun, plus it gives everyone the opportunity to see and hear what a truly terrible Sticist sounds like. Gives a reference point for “bottom of the barrel” haha Seriously though, I love Paganini so I had to give this one a whirl. It’s pretty tough, lots of stuff going on there... and Yng, yeah I love Yng! I thought I’d try something different... Thanks for checking it out, man! |

Excellent slower version of this, Scott! What's performance tempo, I wonder? Probably something like 240 BPM? I think I'm kidding. That sounds tough to play at human tempo--I can't imagine playing this at full speed. What is the "suggested" tempo for this? And well done! |

Suggested tempo is "ridiculously fast" hahaha The Caprices are a lot of fun, a violin benchmark to be sure. Thanks for checking it out, I might approach this one a bit differently I think. Might require both hands on deck to get close to the actual tempo. There's a few sloppy spots, and I was downright lazy with the pulse in spots - but then again, it's Paganini, so I'm thinking that just making it through this chunk in one shot is probably an achievement enough for me. I'll revisit it a bit later down the road probably once I get my chops up a bit. hahaha I've run out of Soundcloud space almost, so I guess in the new year I'll torture the forum with video... Also, this probably sound a lot better on an SG12 too, which I may invest in. (I am really looking forward to the "have you really explored the range of what you have" comments hahaha ![]() Good fun. More to come... (And yes, I still suck.) |

![]() Seriously, I wonder if there is a way I could incorporate 2 different sized sticks and an 8 string guitar into a show of some sort... hmmn, food for thought once I figure the Stick out a bit better I suppose... Thanks for checking it out, dudes! Getting better... It's really interesting how every time I do one of these ( haha daily at least, lately) even if it's a primitive, rough thing that sounds like a pregnant yak howling at the moon (yes, that is pretty much my signature tone! ![]() Lots of fun this Stick contraption... |
