I have really been working hard on my improvisation (left and right simultaneously) and have made some serious improvements as far as hand independence and expressing my imagination on the Stick and tapping. It took me a while to figure out how to actually work on hand independence in a timely and efficient manner, but I did. Anyways, something I have been working on a lot lately is odd note grouping 16th note sequences. (Particularly 5:4 6:4 and 7:4 while keeping a steady groove going.)

I have been obsessed with that sort of thing since I first heard Eric Johnson; I love how him and Joe Bonamassa hammer those 5's in Pentatonic. Really fun to listen to! Joe is definitely "next level" guitar playing, major blues head, but chops tone and feel from hell... But yeah, odd note groupings can really change the feel of something, even if it's not a true odd note grouping and is just displaced accents.
Anyways, I guess I should put up or shut up; I present a very simple version of 5's in pentatonic minor fashion. Anyways, enjoy...

Thanks! I've just started playing again, after a decent break, so might try posting something soon. Ended up ripping off a lot of Tony Levin and Mark King style grooves, before, but should put more thought into it.

I've been doing something similar with a different twist utilizing both sides. Something I got from a Trey Gun interview years back.
Melody side playing a repetitive four note pattern of eighth notes Bass side plays repetitive pattern of three eighth notes.
What happens is as you continually repeat this, the note pairing goes through a cycle of different paired notes between melody and bass,
One could assign separate time signatures for melody and bass. If I do quarter notes instead, I could be in 3/4 in the bass and 4/4 in the melody.
I found that if you throw this in a song where you also use a looper, the listener has trouble figuring out where you used the looper. Found that out the hard way once where my looper failed in a performance, and I never actually used it.
The pattern of paired notes starts over every fourth cycle in the melody. Feel free to dissect that into different time signatures. Just keep the note durations identical.

Oh man, I have been doing this exact same thing for months now, haha I think I stole the initial idea from Bob Culbertson's video where he's talking scale patterns and using the RH to keep time. I then mutated it a bit, but the concept remains fundamentally the same... Sort of hahaha It's so cool that someone else does that sort of thing too! Awesome! Any way we could see a video clip?
As far as loopers in live performance, I have 'em, and I know how to use 'em, but I usually don't. I've played out about 25 times with the Stick (open mics and some jams), and every time I do it I find myself wondering how to further condense my rig... lol funny. I had one really nasty train wreck where I turned a Michael Jackson Song into a fake free jazz thingy, and then morphed into a Johnny Cash tune. People were pretty cool about it, but I will be damned if that Michael Jackson tune didn't sound like poo... haha
Half the charm of the Stick for me is that I am kind of my own looper now, I love it. Plus, like you mentioned, If not spot on with timing the looper's start/stop stuff can go sideways at a jam (Then hilarity will ensue haha)

OK, shot this last night for you, pattern comes in about :50. Thing about performing with a looper, always come up with a backup plan beforehand in case it fails during your performance. I've had two different loopers fail on me. Last one the board died on me on stage. No looper used in this video:
