this is the song "boat song" on the John Abercombie album "M". this tune is one of his ambient style ones , such as "timeless". this one works well as a duo also as you can repeat the whole song and one can play the written part while the other colors with some improvisation.
this one is for matched reciprocal 12 string. but it should be playable on 10 strings an other tunings. if someone really wants to play this i could make a version in a different configuration if needed.
here's the song as done by John's early quartet , which i think was his best one. great musicians on it like george mraz on bass an Richie Bierach on piano.
Oh, great, thanks. John Abercrombie is my fave jazz guitarist, I used to play several songs from him a few years ago. I didn't know that tune and never listened to that album (i'm particularly fan of his 80's and 90's works). Such a beautiful tone and phrasing. Thanks for sharing!

A big thanks Mike, both for this and for inadvertently introducing me to the huge bandcamp offering of Noël Akchoté, which includes two 'Plays The Music Of John Abercrombie' albums (among over 500 uploads - busy guy!).

“M” is my favorite album of his. ECM re-released the album as part of an anthology called the first quartet. it was out of print for a while as a standalone album.
