Post Timbale parts on Stick.
Hi Guys.

Like Emmett said along time ago, drummers can really utilise their former knowledge on zee Stick.

I've found that trying to adapt Cuban ideas helps broaden rhythmic independence and opens up the free hands channels for further independence and musicality.

What say you..?

Just a quick nod to Bob Culbertson here.

Clearly these ideas are not at all dissimilar to what Bob has offered many times in his - Both R L R R L R - approach, in fact Cascara is a two bar in cut common time, and includes Bob's rhythm in the first bar...!

Regards to All

Hi Thar. What rhythms have you transposed, can you throw up a vid? Do you have a general creative approach/inspiration to play these sounds?

A friend once played me a chicken dance rhythm from a video of dancers in Sierra Leone and told me he'd give me $1000 bucks if I could tell him where "1" was. He still goes to Ghana every year to hold the Kusun study tour with Nii Tete Tettey. Fume Fume....!

@Radcon... at present I do not have any videos or recordings, I will work on getting that done... In my fusion/world music band Comfort Food, we have to percussionists from Ghana. one plays Djembe, bell patterns and kalimba and the other plays Congas, bongos and hand percussion. So, I have learned some stuff from them, however, I have also been studying with Trey Gunn for some time, and he went to Mali recently and took some Djembe lessons and also brought back an Ngoni. So he had me playing djembe patterns and interlocking them... It is a bitch!! however, I practice them and am making some headway.... what I would do is find a djembe player and take lessons on the drum and also use the stick to work out the patterns... believe me, once you get these West African patterns and odd times under your fingers, you will be amazed!

all the bass,

r

hi R.

2 from Ghana, what are the chances....?! I'm just checking out the revebnation, wow I love the big Miles influence. Your drummers give the band a tough and Musical sound, nothing quite like it.. Man this is a really good band, you must be happy with that.

Cheers.

Thanks however, I think that video is quite old, like, last year... I will have to check... Yeah the band is a great collective of about 12 different players, who circulate through, depending on who is available for the gig. My buddy, Bob Antolin has his PHD in world music, and he plays saxophones, flute, wind synth, guitar and keyboards, all at a very high level.... the two percussionists are really fun. and the drummer with us now, Jamel Nance used to play with the Neville Brothers... so the band is quite colorful... we celebrate the music of Electric Miles and Fela Kuti, with a little Herbie Hancock, some weather report and other spices in the mix!! I will post something their more recent! Thanks so much!
