Has anyone ever tried Dueling Banjos? I think it would be hysterical bass vs. melody.

Re: Learning a simple song? ( what did you learn first )
Great thread, thanks for sharing everyone. Like most beginners I'm always looking for tunes that are simple yet fun to play and there are some wonderful ideas here. I'm sure most of y'all have seen this video but I couldn't resist (forgive me) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLMsagehalo wrote: Has anyone ever tried Dueling Banjos? It's supposedly a simple tune but I havn't had much luck with it yet, might be fun on Stick (Halloween costume optional). Looking forward to seeing this thread grow

I'm going to try "Greensleeves". I think this will be a great piece for developing left and right hand independence.

Currently I can only play The Frail, by NIN. I played it as an exercise for piano many years ago and when I got my Stick 3 months ago I decided it was a good option because it's so simple. The only problem is, it's the only thing I can really play - I know the intro to King Crimson's Red on the bass part AND on the melody side, and I can play either one but not both of them together. Of course now I think I was aiming too high but now I don't really know what song to target.

Is there an existing arrangement of Greensleeves for Stick out there? Of course, it'd probably be a valuable exercise for me to arrange it myself... Also, while I wait for my Stick, I'm working out an arrangement of The Fez by Steely Dan. I fully expect it to be a train wreck, but I hope to learn a lot.

Hi Brad, There's an arrangement of "Greensleeves" in Chapter 5 of The Stick Book, Volume 1, and a section in Chapter 6 about what scales to use for soloing as well over the chords. http://www.stick.com/instruction/books/stickbook/

Re: Learning a simple song? ( what did you learn first )
For relatively new stick players I suggest these few songs:
time after time- derek dallenger scarbourough fair- gregs book here comes the sun- david tipton just the way you are- david tipton
In the last 6 months I have been working on these tunes and the rewards have been great. They seem to be within the reach of anyone whos been playing for a year or so, give or take. I have used software that slows down the tunes so I can figure out the bass chords, this has helped me immensely.
cheers, kev

I think Roxanne by the Police is good one to start with. Fairly simple chords and bass line. Plus fun to play. Plenty of room to add your own take on it
