Just curious what tunes, techniques you all are working on these days.

I'm currently trying to finish up the song book, and I'm learning some piano music on the SG12. Simple Mozart, Bach, and others. i'll post them when I have then down (all respect to you classical guys...)

Nice to see you are working on classical pieces, Greg. Hope to hear it soon.

As for me I realized that Charlie Parker's phrasing is a bit hard to adapt to any instrument other than saxophone, even hard to adapt on piano. Maybe Lee Vatip will dislike reading this ... Anyhow he is doing a great job, playing be-bop and modern jazz.

There's something very peculiar and strange concerning transcription from an instrument to another. Not so strange if you think it over in fact, there are some good reasons, most materialistic and technical: phrasing and playing technics are not identical from one instrument to an other.

I will try to transcript some pieces from Erik Satie and maybe post it here. A musician from Canada, Sauvé (I think it is his name), did a very interesting job on it. I think that you Greg pointed out formerly his nice work on a thread here.

But not the Gymnopedies, not the Gymnopedies please ...

Have mercy on the poor pianists who heard this piece too many times, all their childhood long (especially in France I guessImage).

Sorry, I am already doing them as I didn't overdose as a kid. I didn't play them on piano but always wanted to. I am really enjoying them on Stick. And they are actually quite challenging to do on Stick. I want to use Satie's voicings and I have had to try 3 different tunings before I could get close to the piano. With MR I am really close, I only am dropping a few notes when there are very large chords. I will annoy you with No. 1 soon. :D

Originals!!!! With two albums of mostly covers under our belt, I'm now letting my creative juices flow. Mostly celtic rock (with lyrics) and some more energetic forms of new age. And I'm re-learning lots of our old songs on my Alto. I guess the Grand will just be reserved for solo pieces now, mostly.

I've been working on some Latin Jazz style solo originals with just Stick and drum patterns. I'm finding it difficult to translate what I think and can play on other instruments to the Stick but I'm getting there one note at a time! 8-)

As far as technique goes, I'm always trying to find new two-handed arpeggio patterns for that big, unified sound that Bob C. does so well. On the Alto, I feel encouraged to play more unified lines and less divided, bass+melody lines as on standard Stick. The high tuned strings and lack of deep lows really does justice to this method. I always went straight for the high frets on my Grand, so this sweet little instrument does nothing but make my job easier in this respect. I also practice right hand scales and sequences a lot, I can never get enough of that speed thang!
