I recommend going to any length to stay out of the Australian summer sun on hot days. I'm talking coins that are too hot to touch for several minutes after being moved into the shade. Melted CD jewel cases. Very hard to control your tuning, and it can't be good for any instrument. In Adelaide, most people lose interest in buskers when the temp goes over about 33 C anyway. Beware that many local authorities (such as Adelaide City Council) will not let you set up a large umbrella due to liability issues. A good tactic is to work the morning/pre-lunch crowd or evenings instead.

We had many weeks around 30 degree Celsius here in Stockholm last summer and I must say I liked that a lot for busking around those narrow shadowy streets that were first built around 1000 years ago. But in an modern part of the city the sun hits like a sledge hammer. Stay in the shadow, sip water and CD sales go fine at 30 C.
