Re: smokey gray Hipshots now in stock
Most of our past production runs were assembled with Gotoh mini machine heads. As Greg mentioned, Hipshot has some design innovations and the very smooth turning action that I particularly like.
Both brands fit exactly into the 385" thru-holes of our headstocks. The only misalignment is at the small fastener holes on the rear. They're in line along the row of Hipshots but angled inward on the Gotohs.
By fastening the top collars tightly, you could easily get by without any rear screws, or you could re-drill slightly smaller holes, using the correctly positioned Hipshot as a template, for self threading the new rear fastener screws.
In this latter case, you might want to first fill the small open fastener holes that will be visible from the rear. Epoxy turns into a plastic fill, and with a little tint or matching wood dust mixed in, you can get a close match to the wood. Then file and fine sand, finishing off with Watco or any generic Danish oil.
For those of you who might like to change your set of tuners, we'll have to determine prices for 10 and 12-string sets in the various plating colors.
All the Best, Emmett.
