Curious to know if anyone has experimented with creatiing a removable belthook? I toured India a few years ago, and when I unscrewed/removed the belthook, the Stick was so thin I could pack it along with my bass in the same case (with some padding between instruments), giving me only one case to schlep. That said, I wouldn't continue to do that, for fear of stripping the wood holding the bolts.
Anyone come up with a solution? It would make it that much easier to transport the Stick when touring.

PS: if anyone in the southern Ontario area is out there... I'm playing Stick at the Shaw Festival! I'm part of the 6-piece band for Part One of The Mahabharata, a two-part telling of the Indian epic. I'm playing Stick, fretless bass, harmonium and synth. Come check it out if you can! Playing till March 26.

Re: Removable belt hook?
Thanks for the suggestions! @werkspace... I suspect your suggestion is the one that makes sense, though I'm loathe to drill holes in my Stick.
I was curious to see if someone had already done the work of figuring it out and doing it: I followed someones instructions on here for re-foaming my hard case and it worked like a charm.
Thanks all! - Dylan

Threaded inserts (at least the 3 or 4 different types I've tried) are very difficult to place exactly where you want them. I used threaded inserts when I built a Telecaster copy to make the neck truly "bolt-on" and it was quite a challenge.

I keep forgetting that not everyone has a workshop full of tools. I suppose the minimum requirement would be a drill press and the proper sized forstner bit.

Well, I do have a workshop full of tools, and I wouldn't try to put threaded inserts into my Stick!!
Not that it couldn't be done, but in addition to getting the hole precisely where it needs to be, there is the challenge of getting the insert to go in straight. And yeah, doing this without a drill press and Forstner bit would be a recipe for disaster. It really is surprising that these buggers can give so many problems, but as much as I love them they have their limitations.
That said, there does seem to be some "windage" in the holes for the belt hooks, so the tolerances may not be so tight as to make this un-doable.
