Post subject:  Is SE still making models with bamboo construction?

Hey everyone,

Just curious is anyone knows what happened to the bamboo option for new models? is that no longer offered?

Also wondering if anyone knows what the wait time is now for a new instrument....

I'm tempted by that 12-string graphite Stick currently on Reverb, but it seems kind of too much.

Thanks,
Joseph

I'm certain that Bamboo is still an option:

Looks like something is off on the website builder. Hardwoods or Bamboo is the choice - Hover your cursor over hardwoods and the "Material" pops up, hover your cursor over "Bamboo" and "Pickups" pops up. Click on Bamboo and you get the page that Brian linked showing bamboo. Appears to be no way to enter Bamboo as a material choice, even though it's listed. I could not find a way to enter Bamboo as a choice.

Maybe just call/mail Stick Enterprises directly?

+1 to that.

FWIW. I received a new bamboo 12 string Grand in February this year (order placed September 2021) & I have a bamboo SG12 on order (order placed August 2023, & if it's ready in less than 2 years from then I'll be pleasantly surprised).

Did you notice that prices are higher now?

So they are. Checking the order page for the SG12, the basic price when I ordered in August 2023 was 3100 USD. Now it's 3700 USD.

The simple price list at https://stick.com/shop/prices/ shows 3700 USD too (the "effective from" on that page shows March 2022, but I have a strong feeling that was when the previous price increases were effective from?).

IMHO, spending that much money for a used Stick on Reverb is not the best use of your resources.

Try doing what I did: After I missed a couple of Sticks posted to Reverb, I started glancing at it every couple of hours. A bamboo grand stick, #6129, was being sold by a music store in Washington state. It included the hardshell case and a homemade stand to play it standing up.

From the pictures, it looked like it was in immaculate condition. And had all the modern bells and whistles - 3D bridge, flaps, etc.

It was $2800, plus shipping. I didn't hesitate, but just plunked down my credit card.

The store even cleaned it and restrung it before sending it to me. A nice touch.

A week later, it was in my hands, and I've been practicing diligently and taking with Jim Meyer ever since. The instrument has exceeded my expectations.

You can also search Craigslist across the country: https://searchcraigslist.org/

I found a nice one that way, but the owner ended up selling it locally.

Have patience! You can get a great used instrument at a reasonable price. Best of luck.
