Post Deep Baritone Melody tuning....
I'm wanting to tune a 10 string to DBM since it matches my Alto tuning; making the transition from 1 instrument to the other of course is a no- brainer. Plus, it'll be a nice counter to playing/hearing the higher registers of the Alto. It seems there are few players using this tuning, just wondering if anyone has experimented with DBM, or if you're currently utilizing it, what your impressions are? Would this tuning lend itself nicely for solo arrangements?
Thanks

I have tried deep baritone melody and it is pretty sweet. I have played regular baritone melody for many years tho so that is still my fav. However, the looser feel and overlapping notes on deep baritone were really sweet. I forget how many steps down deep is from regular baritone melody? I'd say give em both a go and see what you like, I don't think the adjustments are too extreme. At least for a test run, then you can decide on one and tweak/adjust it.

Is there a special string set for DBM tuning? I have a set of BM strings , recently tuned down to DBM to match my Alto. I'm finding the strings a bit too floppy on the melody side, while also having to retune quite often.

Thanks

Yes, there is. (I have deep baritone melody strings on my Stick since day one, and I won't be changing tuning any time soon.)

My Ironwood #1212 is tuned 1/2 bari (here I go again, it's half-way between bari and deep, w/ C octave in the center) I agree it's sweet, darker, and just far enough out of the Bassment from my DBR 12-string to lighten up my eccentric curiosities.
