New Railboard day! (Some pics also)
Eight months and change after placing my order, my Railboard finally arrived today. The nice local UPS subcontractors brought it to my door - they even called beforehand to schedule the drop-off. (Let's not talk of the fact that their customs department let the instrument sit in storage for three days without bothering to call or even mail me to bill the import taxes and such; Had to call them myself on friday to get it - and having paid it the same day, I received a letter today asking me to contact them ASAP concerning a shipment to declare. Well played, guys. )Here's a gallery of some delicious bokeh and if you look closely, you can see glimpses of the instrument in there too. (Sorry about the over-exposure. There wasn't much natural light to play with and gimps automatic white balance filter went crazy with the fleece.)So, first impressions after a couple of hours with it: The workmanship on the instrument is superb. It's surprisingly heavy and sturdy for something so lithe. The action is nice and low, but I have no idea where I am on the fretboard. That low bass string is THICK! It feels like a wall I have to climb over to reach the higher ones. Then again, it could just be that my left hand is underdeveloped. I had a go at the rudiments in Stick Book vol. 1 and it certainly seems I have my work cut out for me trying to get it on the same level as my right. Time to roll up my sleeves and get to it, I guess?

That is what I hope to order this year, the exception being that I will get linear inlays. What string gauges and tuning did you choose?
Your pictures are quite good; it is nice to meet another GIMP user.

Congrats!
I literally TODAY paid my deposit on mine, that's just like yours with the exception that mine will have the linear inlays. Can't wait...
