I'm still looking for a good distortion (melody side) that doesn't create a lot of crosstalk and leak over to the bass side. Emmett told me in an email, to use a low gain, square wave distortion. Any suggestions? |

The best way to eliminate such crosstalk is to use a high pass filter. What is your budget? |

The soundbox multi wave distortion is the key to the gates of paradise. You can dial in virtually any tone, and the indeed square wave multi band setting is the bees knees. |

For polyphonic multiwave distortion that is! Otherwise the electro harmonix micro synth is still king for monophonic. I think that has a brilliant square wave fader as well. Note: somehow this multi wave filter on the soundbox eliminates cross talk. I don't know how but I think it ignores certain frequency so you can dial it in with almost no crosstalk at all! I found for mono distortion the EHX crosstalk was really good too. But I had my settings pretty weird on the micro synth. I aim to get 2 for each side one day, or the soundblox . With both units the crosstalk never bothered me. |

A couple of things to consider. 1. Technique influences distortion tone and crosstalk immensely. If you use a really light touch the output level of the strings is lower than if you use hand motion and get more energy into the string. This can really help cut down on crosstalk. 2. What are you running the distortion into? Are you playing back through a guitar amp and do you have any amp simulators in your signal chain? Much of the crosstalk you have with the Stickup, for example is high-frequency. with the PASV-4 it's low-frequency. (Rob's suggestion of a high-pass filter works great with the Villex pickups. PS, I'm currently using the Boss Metal Zone for searing distortion, and the Pigtronix OFO for overdrive... |

Keep in mind that some distortion pedals work by loading up and overloading the signal. Those will tend to be more noisy and will amplify crosstalk and finger noise. I have a custom built diction pedal that works by running the signal through various values of LED's. Very quiet |
