Hi all,
I've been contacted by a venue in York, Maine (a big summer tourist destination) that is actually LOOKING FOR a solo Stick player for gigs.
This came about because a former Stick player from way back named John Kumnick plays gigs on guitar and/or bass there, and he knows my wife Jen through work.
The place is called Anthony's. If anyone within driving distance wants to spend some time in Maine and play a solo gig, I have the contact info that I can forward to you.
And if you make it up this way, Jen and I can provide you with free lodging (we live about 45 minutes from the venue), and depending on the night, two audience members. Maybe more.

Luc
Why don't YOU do it!

How many hours is it? If it's 2 hours- I could give you 20 easy songs that you could do and fill that time up. adjust some pedals, take a bathroom break, a little patter inbetween songs, play a couple over again that "someone" requested and you might even make it to 3 hours!

Anyway it is really gracious of you to post this and offer room and board for the musician and two groupies (?), man that is going out of your way. it said two audience members-oh, you and Jen. :D

think about it and take me up on it! you can do this!

...must agree, for a second time...

...Luc, you should do it yourself, or together with your wife... ;)

If nobody wants this gig and they pay for the plane ticket from Switzerland and a decent hotel, I'll gladly indulge.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but I found out what the venue is offering for pay. I texted the guy, and I got back this response:
"The gig is 9:30am-12:30pm. Pay is $100."
My response:
"Afraid that's not going to be enough for anyone to come. I let one guy know about it, and his response was, and I quote, "Wow, what is this, 1985?" (This is true. If said person wishes to reveal himself, I'll let him do it.) To be frank, as a professional musician for 30 years, that is kind of my response as well, particularly for high tourist season in Maine. Winter, maybe, but not summer. I don't mean to come off like an arrogant jerk, or tell you how to run your business; I'm just saying that $100 isn't going to be enough to get someone this way."
That was me biting my tongue.
What a fucking insult. Essentially, they learned what a Stick was, and then thought "Hey, we could get two musicians for the price of one!"
Of course, if someone still wants to do it, let me know and I'll get you the guy's info. And Jen and I will still put you up for the night and provide some audience support (and our dogs love company, too).
Why am I not doing the gig myself? Aside from burning the bridge there, it's because I am a realist, fully aware of my abilities on the instrument at this point in time, and a realist about how much time I have to work on it. I also seem to have come to the conclusion that, at this point in my life, my focus on the instrument is going to be with more of the Michael Bernier approach as apposed to the total solo artist approach. (I can't make my goal of releasing my EP this month, because when I sold the family business, I lost over half my recorded audio track files, so effectively, I have to start over again. It'll get done eventually...just not this month.) It's all good.

Follow up: I sent a text back to that guy telling him I owe him an apology and asking if I could call him tomorrow to do so.
