 Emmett's Memorial Service Video
Hi Everyone, It took me a while to edit the video from Emmett's memorial service. Sorry for the delay. There were a lot of technical hurdles that needed attention. I was finally able to take the TLC time. I hope it brings every viewer to that loving space that all of us who were there felt. ––––––––––––––– In loving memory to EMMETT CHAPMAN (Sept. 28, 1936 – Nov. 1, 2021). This 1:29min video was taken at his memorial service on November 12, 2021. Special thanks to all who spoke, including DON SCHIFF, who was the best master of ceremonies any of us could have hoped for. Those who shared the love were DON, GREG HOWARD, who also read written tributes of two, not able to attend the ceremony in person, yet wanted to share their feelings, TONY LEVIN and GUILLERMO CIDES. Brother, DAN CHAPMAN spoke, then STEVE ADELSON, BOB CULBERTSON, and lastly, Emmett’s two daughters, DIANA LANG and GRACE CHAPMAN-McCARTY. Greg also performed an original piece he wrote called ELEGY FOR EMMETT, that he plays on Emmett’s personal STICK. Filmed at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park, CA, not far from Emmett’s home and business, Stick Enterprises. After the speakers finished their remarks, there was a live improv music performance by 5 Stickist, all playing the instrument that Emmett invented THE CHAPMAN STICK, using the new musical method of playing, he discovered on August 26, 1969, that he called FREE HANDS. Emmett’s spirit is now free. R.I.P. Re: Emmett's Memorial Service Video
I’ve watched it repeatedly since the day it was produced. Dan your eulogy was touching and can relate in your mother’s love for her believing faith and love for music as a Pentecostal.Great job Dan you definitely brought those who personally never met him to know him.

Thanks for preparing this release of the video Dan. Much appreciated. The timeline links are especially useful to aid revisiting particular sections.
PS. Probably obvious, but if there's anyone left here who hasn't read Jim Reilly's 'StickMan' ( ISBN-10: 0991872916) yet, that would be an excellent follow up.

 Re: Emmett's Memorial Service Video
Thanks so much for doing that Dan.
I watched this live back in November while working in my shop (a work style that was very much inspired by your brother, btw...round the clock w/ a few random necessary breaks). The feed was from the funeral home's facebook page, which I'm sure was just an iPhone on a tripod. So the audio was difficult and the visual was uninspiring. It got the point across. Loved the stories, especially Diana & Grace.
But your version really gives reference to being present, as if I was there.
Thanks again, and all the best.

 Re: Emmett's Memorial Service Video
Thanks guys. Your feedback is much appreciated. Editing this has done a lot to revive my own spirit.
I’ve been receiving some encouragement lately to continue my work on the documentary. I wanted to finish it while Emmett was still alive, and that wasn’t in the cards. On his birthday, last year I was able to show him an important scene for me, one that I thought he would be touched by. I was saving it for what I was planning as the ending of the film. Even though he was pretty sick by then, he was excited to see it and invited everyone at Stick Enterprises that day to watch.
His story is important, and not just for The Stick community. He was an authentic human being. A one of a kind.

Finally gave it the time it deserves. Thank you Dan. I want to grab everyone I know and make them watch this. I can't put in words how important the Stick - and then Yuta, Emmett, and Grace (in the order I communicated with them) have been since 1984. Wow.
