Wise advice DBro! One of the best situations I have seen and had the chance to be a part of was in the mid 90s. We had a guy that liked the band's( Edinboro Pa's 'the Void') music so much he became another member of the group. He came to every practice and ran sound in our rehearsal space and then to every show(back in the day when you had to drag your own system around with you.) He got an equal share of the pay and even got a "Live sound" credit on our 2 cd releases. His name was(is? I haven't seen him in years) Mike Bruno and I miss him each time we play in a club with the salaried next generation sound guys who turn us up to deafening volume levels.

I Guess you guys might have seen the video going round about the true life of a mix engineer, staged but reminds me of difficult days behind the desk in the past. Pans between the girl in the tracking room sounding like a screeching cat and back to Control room sound with a sweating engineer frantically riding everything on the Board, producer/manager lurking behind and her sounding fabulous. Quite amusing with an air of reality!
