Ok, I finally decided I really need this and will have a go at it myself.

When school is in session I don't have much time. Sorry I couldn't figure this out in time.

Have just ordered two boards from Jack and will have a go at making a two-channel pre-amp, probably with a A/B switch for a 3rd channel.

Did you ask Jack about the A/B switch? I will be very interested in how this works and the design.

Hi guys! Glad to see my pcb has proved useful for your instrument. :)

I'll see if I can come up with some mods or circuits specifically for use with the Stick, and post them in my blog.

Best regards,

Jack

Very cool! Jack's on the forum.

I'll be all over this when you post something. I still have to make the Mini-Booster from the PCBs that I bought from you. This will inspire me to get it done.

Hey, that was quick, I only just sent Jack a note with the URL to Stickist this morning! :) Welcome to the forum, Jack! Glad you have the time to drop by and contribute directly to our cause!

Cheers,

Justin

Not a problem, Eric, I'm looking forward to the challenge! Have done a fair amount of pickup/circuit repair work over the years, so will be nice to build something from the ground up and learn some basic circuitry design skills along the way.

Cheers,

EG

Silly question, Eric, but I take it that the resistors soldered to the back of the rotary switch are the various values of R3 for input impedance? Looks like a bunch of coloured ants trying to escape from the heat-sink tubing! :)

And you didn't find you needed R10 as a pop-protector?

R10 is for pop protection if you switch the circuit on/off with a footswitch. If you leave the box on all the time, then I suggest that you leave out R10.

Another suggestion is that you leave R3 mounted on the circuit board and add resistors across it to change the impedance. This will also help prevent pops as the impedance selector is changed.

My Multi-Purpose pc board can be used to build a generic jfet booster much like the Tillman. Instructions are included when you order the pcb.

Lastly, I suggest giving the Mini-Booster a try, especially on the bass side, where the circuit's tendency to add some very mild distortion could prove pleasing.

Those are the impedance resistors for R3. Just make sure that you get a shorting rotary switch.

Just as Jack said, you don't need R10 if you make it without the bypass foot switch. I intend to use a circuit as a preamp and will leave it on all the time.

This is good to know, however I don't have any pops at all when I change the impedance selector. I have tried it with my amp turned up really high and it is dead quiet. Are there circumstances where it might make noise if it is around some other devices?

OOO, I would much rather have a pcb than use perf board. I will be getting some of these.

This is why I making a Mini next, I want to compare the sound of the Mosfet, the Mini-booster, and the simple JFET circuits on both sides of the Stick. Then I'll probably make a hybrid with the circuits I like best for each side.

Thanks again for joining our forum.

Thanks for the info, guys, sounds like there's plenty of options if I can get my simple head around it! :) Although my first intention is just to get my Stick sounding better, due to correct impedance, the close-second is switching options for stereo-Stick or mono-bass into the same mono or stereo rig. Kinda thinking it won't be that tricky, but I doubt my wiring will look as neat as Erics! :)
