Post BOSE S1Pro and L1 Models
Hello all.

Would any of you fellow Stick players tell me of your experiences with either of these BOSE products, pros & cons?

I'd also like to know of your signal chain to the amplification, or if it's direct, etc.

This Saturday, a chain music store in Regina, Saskatchewan is hosting a BOSE product event. I've been hired to perform through one or both of these products.

Most know, I'm a dedicated Fishman user. Plus, being hired to represent something I'm unfamiliar with generally goes against my principles. But...it's a good gig for a typically dry month, so hey...I sold out.

Any info is appreciated!

Hi

I just got back from my residency gig in an irish pub where I played and sang with my son on drums and backing vocals.

Tonight we used a Bose L1 compact with a S1Pro as a monitor wedge.

Bose sound is just brilliant. It cuts through loud drunken punters, has a minimal footprint and is lightweight.

You’re a Fishman guy? You’ll love Bose!

Enjoy!

If you are using any kind of amp modeler, keep in mind to get a full FRFR sound out of an S1 it needs to be on a PA stand. There’s a switch inside the hole. Even on the ground it will still sound good.

I have the S1 pro. Fantastic thing for a portable battery amp. I don't gig it as such, I am in a loud rock band where it wouldn't stand a chance, but I use it for vocals on practice, and home use for the sticks (and the bass), especially when playing against the phone through bluetooth.

My wife uses it as a monitor (on its side) for practice in our other group.

Hey Baggett-face.

I have Bose L1 Mark 2 with B2 sub bass. It’s a little bigger than many people use, for example Oliver’s rig and his compact system. That would be great for most gigs.

I’ve always been interested in having a discreet sound that Bose offers, no particular colouring of tone that guitar or bass amps offer. That way I can let the effects and or amp modelling create any colour and let the blank slate of the Bose convey that.

As much as I’m happy with Bose, or as I call it, my second stage monolith, I believe it will good to eventually have two of each, just to create that true stereo sound. I did get a larger Bose rig so I could have plenty of headroom, the L1 could easily cut it in a high volume situation. Bose portability is legendary.

Adrian Belew runs two of these with a guitar amp as a central dry sound. As a similar solution, I’ve considering using amp modelling to create a dry “centre” and pan stereo effects around that. Having said that, I get a very full image with just one. Having two is a long way off for me...

I plug into the tonematch mixer and take two leads out of the last stereo effect pedal in my chain, giving each lead a seperate channel. I’ve also got a a way to go in terms of creating a really good signal chain, but I’m learning which is exciting.

Hope that helps. Have a great presso!

I also have a L1 mark 2 with the b2 sub for larger spaces. It delivers awesome sound for Stick and vocals.

I did a Stick clinic at the music academy here in Sweden and they had a bose there on stage. I really liked that sound, because it is transparent and flat.

Otherwise, I have two RCF NX-10 "active stage monitors" that sounds great, goes really loud - but is only about 95% transparent (using them as studio monitors too, but always checking my mixes through a pair of Sennheiser 600 headphones, to be sure of what I'm doing). When I play in churches I use to bring only one RCF speaker, it's more than sufficient. And I'm setting my Fractal Audio III amp to mono output (as my patches are designed for stereo).

All:

I have ordered a JBL Eon Compact and will report back on it. Of particular interest to me from a Stick perspective is the frequency range of 37.5 Hz – 20 kHz, a four channel mixer, and "up to 12 hours" battery life (although I have no plans on playing for that long!).

My plan is to use it primarily at Farmer's Markets this spring, summer, and fall. I played a market yesterday with a Bugera AC60 and I was pretty much pushing the limit although had no complaints about the sound.
