Hello Fellow Stickists!

I've been looking into this off and on for a while, and I'm starting to think that what I'm looking for might not (yet) exist.

I'm looking for something that's essentially just like the Boss ES-8 effects routing/switching unit.
https://www.boss.info/us/products/es-8/

This has everything I would need for controlling my setup, including two inputs (almost like it was made for a Stick player), the ability to route effects in any order, assign them to either channel (1 or 2), is completely MIDI controllable, and has L/R outputs.

It's almost perfect except for one fatal flaw - you can only select ONE input at a time.

I contacted Boss and was told that there's no way to have a signal from both inputs simultaneously, and that there's no workaround.

Does something like this exist that I haven't found yet? Rack or pedal based? Commercially available?

Thanks in advance for any tips or insights!

At reverb.com you will find a custom controller that I once ordered for myself. I don't need him since I use Helix, so he is for sale.

If you need a new one, or want to make any other modifications, please contact with EM Custom.

They are smart, patient and will do what you want.

I am not sure that I understand *exactly* what you mean when you write 'have a signal from both inputs simultaneously' but would putting something like an ABY in front of the ES-8 do the trick? Tough to find a MIDI addressable one but otherwise it seems like a way to sidestep the issue with the 'almost perfect' solution.

So far from the device my Stickal.adventure is looking for :

I don't know any device with the feature you request. But the GT1000 Core can handle simultaneously two signal paths, and you can add some external effects using the two effects loops. Olivier Chabasse (catbasse on this forum) uses it this way and he seems quite happy with it.

The only device I can think of, and that could do the main thing (switching effects on/off) is the Morningstar ML5 (well, you would need a couple of them) controlled with a MIDI controller, such as their MC3 or MC6. There may be some other solutions I'm not aware of.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

At the time, I was looking for a unit that could reroute individual effects pedals between the two channels, instead of swapping entire chains or channels.

For example, lets say on one song I have a synth pedal on the bass side (among other pedals in the chain), but on a different song I wanted to use the same synth pedal on the melody side without changing anything else from the bass or melody chains.

I found a few companies that could make a custom unit, but it is a bit cost prohibitive.

I had reached out to Voodoo Labs as they have a couple of effects switching/routing units that looked like they might work for this. They recommended buying duplicates of any pedals I wanted to use.

After thinking about it, I realized I don't currently need anything as comprehensive as what I originally posted about, and may just buy one or two duplicate pedals if I need to - versus a complicated switching system.

Another option, that was presented in Bob's Zoom Stick session today, was to use a computer for effects routing/switching. I think this is worth exploring.

Two of every. Thing. Welcome to StickWorld.
I'm afraid to try out a bass combo amp because I'll wind up buying two...

Late to the party here but I believe I’ve done this with my Helix, you can assign the same pedals to opposite signal paths to be turned off and on by assigning them to the same foot switch where one is on and the other duplicate is off. By pressing the foot switch the effect will switch loops. If you are using external pedals there’s four effects loops and you can assign a control to the split path to switch which loop goes where.

There is an A/B function with signal path splits.

I don’t have many effects pedals so I’ve not tried switching effects loops. One way to save DSP is to use Scenes.

In the preset templates I believe there’s something set up like this as well.

Neural DSP Quad Cortex I believe can do this internally to a higher extent than Helix, if I’m not mistaken it has a lot more DSP than the Helix does.
