Re: WANTED: Roland GK-3 or GK-2A with grand stick spacing
It's a tough one - I've been looking myself for quite a while.
There is another thread about it (I think I started it on classifieds) - it might have been moved b/c we started talking about technicals. IIRC someone arrived at the insight that 12str spacing is 0.1in which is standard through-hole IC pin spacing so there could be an opportunity to install hex pickups on standard perfboard. Man, it'd sure be easier if there was a roland contact where we could source the pickups and module pre-assembly. [right now, I'm having to work on the house...poor me. and my health...ok a little poor me on that -- so, sadly, I'm not a primary resource]
I don't really think hex is as dead as sometimes gets made out to be ...we often use the misnomer "MIDI pickup" and maybe with enhanced FFA that's somewhat true for pitch to glitch..um, I mean pitch to MIDI (I'm from the 24 pin days, the GR 700 was a sexy abomination) but for hex processing, I don't think that's necessarily true There's a guitarist that uses a sixappeal that mounts his hex pickup in the neck position (and the six appeal has a bass boost that actually makes the GK not sound too thin when used as a stad pickup)
given your sound(which I really envy...I mean enjoy...nah, I mean envy -- you should do a tutorial.) I think hex processing might be a path that you could do a lot with.
man, that was a lot of words for so little info. good thing I'm not a pilot, ATC would hate me

Thanks for the kind words! II use the Roland hex pickup system in rock situations and sometime to blend with my natural sound. Generally I’m not a fan of the sounds on their own, but I’d like to add it to one of my sticks….. that’s why I’m looking
