These are probably the original pickups. At that time Emmett used them in 7-string Stick Basses. A month ago there was a 5+7 Grand for sale in Germany, where on the bass side there was a Stickup, and on the melody the same. If I remember correctly, they were made by Lace, I think.

These are the original pickups. The housing is still the 10-string size, with larger pickups for the 12 strings, and some sticks later it was replaced by the "new" 12-string StickUp.

Never seen an Oak Stick, reminds me of furniture

It's not very common, but they made some oak Sticks (10 and 12 string models) in the 1990 years. It was a one piece construction, laminated hardwood construction started in 1996 ... https://stick.com/about/history/timeline/

Wow. I never knew about this. Thanks.

**Edit** I had replied to this thread without having first checked out the instrument in question. Upon review of the photo, that Stick does indeed have not only one, but two of the Lace Sensor pickups that I mentioned in my reply. - end

****
My first Stick was a solid rosewood Grand in the upper 600-range of serial numbers (early/mid 1990s). It came equipped with a 5+7 tuning - the pickup housing had a traditional 5-string Stickup in the bass, but an open-housed Lace Sensor for the 7 melody strings.

It buzzed quite a bit. I spoke with Emmett several times about this, and he urged me to keep this "experimental" pickup, as he was really interested to see what I could do with it. As this was my first Stick instrument, I expressed that I didn't want to experiment - I wanted something to learn and grow with.

Emmett relented, and agreed to replace that housing with a traditional 6+6 Stickup configuration.

A while ago there was a 7+5 stickup on ebay (in Australia I think) -- can't find the post now but I was interested to see it existed.

[Edit -- found it but no pics: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16281]

Also I was aware of Touchboard (my mid-90s Grand has a "Touchboard Products" detail on the nameplate) I've just never seen that logo before and it's very cool.

Regards

Hello everyone!
I am the owner of the Grand Stick for sale.
I wrote to Stick Enterprises and they said my G. Stick n. 699 was manufactured in December 1993.
I purchased it in 1994.

Are you referring to the TOUCHBOARD writing on the hard case?
It is indeed beautiful.

I never noticed that before.
My 1978 Stick says "The Chapman Stick touchboard TM" on the headstock placard.

And the first batches of Sticks without a nameplate just had "THE CHAPMAN STICK TOUCHBOARD" etched in red. Pretty cool stuff - I like the term touchboard too, just seems fitting for an instrument like the Stick.
